Ashutosh Gowariker's Lagaan brought Aamir Khan international recognition with an Oscar nomination for Best Foreign Film. With his next film 1857 - The Rising, directed by Ketan Mehta (Mirch Masala, Maya), Khan hopes to notch an exclusive screening at the Cannes International Film Festival 2004.
Buzz is the period drama will feature the likes of Hollywood's Hugh Jackman (X-Men, Kate & Leopold) and Robert Carlyle (Trainspotting, The World is Not Enough).
Reports also suggest the rights of the film have already been brought by Twentieth Century Fox.
In all probability, Khan's romantic lead will be Aishwarya Rai, who is now shooting for Sameer Karnik's Kyun?Ho Gaya Naa with Vivek Oberoi in Wales, UK.
1857- The Rising sees Khan as freedom fighter Mangal Pandey and is scheduled to go on floors in September.
