CHALTE CHALTE
Amod Mehra
After Devdas, this is Shah Rukh Khan’s first release. And his fans flocked to the theatres in large numbers to watch their favourite star’s latest home production. The chartbusting music too helped to bring in the crowd. Needless to say, the film industry was jubilant at the film’s initial success. Rani Mukerji is paired opposite Shah Rukh in this film directed by Aziz Mirza.
KHWAHISH
Though this small film was heavily panned by all critics, the sex crazy audience went to see the movie and that helped the film garner decent collections in the first week. As the film was sold for a meagre amount, the distributors will make money - and that’s what finally matters.
NAYEE PADOSAN
The film was light and frothy and that went well with the paying audience. Though the first week’s collections were not too encouraging but at the same time, the distributors will just scrape through.
BHOOT
The public seem to be enjoying getting scared. The film has collected handsomely even in the second week. In some places, the collections did fall especially in the B class centres but the business in A class centres is so huge that the film can easily be termed as this year’s first superhit.
COMING UP
SUPARI
Another film based on the underworld opens next week. This realistic film is directed by Padam Kumar and stars Nandita Das, Uday Chopra and Rahul Dev. This incidentally is Uday Chopra’s first film outside his family banner.
JHANKAR BEATS
PNC, the makers of Kaante and Sur, are back with a musical, romantic, fun film. Young Sujoy Ghosh directs this film whose music by Vishal Shekhar has become very popular specially with the teenagers.
