Multiplex chain Fun Republic’s chief executive Atul Goel is a happy man these days. His five-screen multiplex in Ahmedabad is showing signs of doing a house-full once again.
“June 1 was the highest seat sales—6,500 of a capacity of 6,700—in two years. It was on the strength of the movies Andaaz and Bhoot,†Goel said.
‘Andaaz’, which is in its third week, is said to have done all India business of around Rs 10 crore. With music and satellite rights expected to bring in another Rs 6 crore, the movie may land up with net earnings around Rs 18-20 crore. The producer Sunil Darshan reportedly spent around Rs 9 crore. Mr Darshan has been able to pull in higher profits as the distribution has also been handled by himself.
However, it is the performance of ‘Bhoot’ that is attracting high acclaim. Shringar Films’ Shravan Shroff said the Fame Adlabs multiplex reported a daily 100% sale for the three-day weekend (Rs 7.56 lakh per day).
‘Ishq Vishk’ produced by Tips and also distributed by the film company, too has had a fairly good run and is expected to turn in profit even though it overshot its budget, costing Tips Rs 6 crore instead of the estimated Rs 3.5 crore.
small budget ‘Haasil’, produced by Tigmanshu Dhulia, was not a huge hit but performed reasonable well estimated at an average of 50-55% in the first three weeks. The film had a poor opening but has begun to pull in crowds late on the strength of movie talk.
