Mentioned copying Hollywood movies.
No mention of DVD copying.

I just want to know why our industry can't be creative?

More and more, we're getting international recognition, mostly with hit films from the 70's and 90's. But, with knowing the content released in 2003, I'd be embarrassed if they started to promote this films in mainstream Hollywood. Hindi cinema would be the laughing stock of the world!

I think they already are the laughing stock of the world!

I hope the capaign by Barabara Taylor Bradford would force them too wake up. Afterall, all the best films to come out from the Indian film Industry have NOT been copies.

While this writer does bring up some good points about the use of 'plagiarism' in India. But I also think he's pretty narrow minded as well with some other things he claims. ie. Gandhi was the only original thinker to ever come out of India. AND that the United States is no.1 or 2 in everything and in every way of life. :wotever:

Remake Rights - The New Mantra!

The new source of big money for Malayalam directors and writers is selling remake rights to other languages, mainly to Telugu, as Malayalam film stories are in great demand in Andhra. It was Niram, remade into Nuvvu Kavali, a sensational hit that started the youth movie trend in Telugu. Tenkasipattanam became Hanuman Junction and Parakkum Thalika was Aaduthu Paaduthu, which were all super hits.

Now the boom to buy rights of Malayalam films has reached its peak, with almost all Vishu releases being snapped up even before their release.

According to Ravi Teja, a leading Telugu upcoming hero: "I try and see as many Malayalam comedies particularly Dileep's, which can be remade into Telugu". Last week the mega star of Andhra, Chiranjeevi purchased Mr Brahmachari to remake as Bavagaru Bagunnara under the direction of V.N.Aditya. Kalayana Raman is being remade as Kalyana Ramudu. According to the latest statistics about 27 films from Malayalam are now being remade into Telugu!

Some smart Telugu directors like Teja rehashes the basic story from Malayalam, makes minor changes by adding Telugu nativity and sells the film for Hindi remakes at even bigger price. However Malayalam stories are the biggest source of inspiration for the Telugu film industry, which is right now the sunrise film industry in India.

Interesting article. I always thought telugu movies got their inspiration from tamil movies.

Now if we can get Ayngaran to do these mallu movies.... :)

The article has lot of factual errors, which make me doubt the veracity of the information. If you see the films in the last two years, the success rate of dubbed films has reached close to zero (zero dubbed films were a hit in 2002 and one is an average in 2003). Most of the blockbusters have been straight films. Remade stories havent fared much better.

Bavagaru Bagunnara is a 8 year old film, its not new. Hanuman junction is an average film and Aduthu Paduthu is a flop.

I also heard the news that Chiranjeevi had brought rights of a Malayalam film but dont know what it is being remade as (definitley not Bavagaru Bagunnara). Anyway we have two or 3 heroes who are mainly in the remake business - Rajasekhar, Jagapathi Babu and to some extent Chiranjeevi and Venkatesh

Teja's movies havent been remade into Hindi except for Yeh Dil which he himself made in Hindi. Anyway his movies are so bad that I would be surprised if they are copied :).
