SALMAN STEALS THE SHOW AT THE IIFA EXTRAVAGANZA

The IIFA Awards 2003 finale enthralled thousands of fans including hundreds of South African Indians in Johannesburg, but the showstopper was Salman Khan, who danced his way from the middle of the audience into their hearts. Incidentally he came just after Aishwarya Rai and got the best actress award for 'Devdas'. Ironically, he ended with a tragic song from 'Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam', in which he and Aish played lead roles. Khan came down in the filmi-style, tied on a rope in the middle of the auditorium, surrounded by dancing dames. As usual, the actor took off his T-shirt and hugged his dancers before leaving the stage. The show opened with African rhythms by local artistes and dancers, and IIFA ambassador Amitabh Bachchan paid tribute to the departed South African freedom fighter Walter Sisulu.

Amitabh said the IIFA movement seeks to celebrate the journey of Indian cinema, noting that "our" films are now part of the international scenario. Silfrideges Stores in London had featured a Bollywood week and that the musical 'Bombay Dreams' by Andrew Llyod Webber was inspired by Indian cinema world. With Hollywood and Bollywood co-productions and crossover films, a new global cinema culture is emerging, he added, but warned against piracy, which has become the scourge of the creative mind. Akshay Kumar danced and performed a martial art act, followed by Shilpa Shetty, Rani Mukharjee and Saif Ali Khan. The show paid tribute to Dina Pathak, Anand Bakshi, Harivanshrai Bachchan and Priya Tendulkar (Bollywood figures).

Did'nt someone here make a comment that Indians in India have bad taste while Indians overseas don't. Hmmm.. I'd say it would have to be the other way around considering not many would care for the Nanga Khan here in India anymore.

Personally would really love to more than embrace (literally) Kareena. :D :D :D As for Esha Deol, I don't think she has been embraced by anyone here, it's more a case of being thrust down our throats by Sillywood (Bollywood renamed more appropriately). Proof of that is not a single film of Esha has doen even decent business. :baaa:
