'Everyone would be crying. It was great'

Kanchana Suggu | May 13, 2003 20:58 IST

Honey Irani is very nervous.

In two days, on May 13, her directorial debut, Armaan, will hit the screen.

Armaan is being viewed as a 'big' film, one that could turn out to be Bollywood's first major hit this year.

Honey's association with films is decades old. She began her career as a wide-eyed, bubbly child-actress in films like Chirag Kahaan Roshni Kahaan and Bombay Ka Chor and has acted in over 72 films.

As an adult, she took to writing scripts and has successful films like Aaina, Darr, Lamhe, Kya Kehna! and Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai to her credit.

Returning to the screen after a long hiatus, she made a cameo appearance in the Abhishek Bachchan starrer, Shararat.

Now, Honey -- who is Dil Chahta Hai director Farhan Akhtar's mother and scriptwriter-lyricist Javed Akhtar's ex-wife -- has donned the mantle of director.

Honey is quite satisfied with her debut film. But, as she told Kanchana Suggu, what matters in the end is that elusive box office hit.

Greater Toronto Area:
Armaan is screening on two screens each at Odeon and one AMC theatre (6 shows daily at each theatre;every 1.5 hr;one film print for two screens). The second AMC theatre is screening Armaan on one screen only (3 shows daily).

TORONTO:
Phoned TORONTO Cineplex Odeon:

Square One (Cineplex Odeon)
100 City Centre Drive, Mississauga

Dolby Digital and THX presentation:
Every day: 12:30, 4:15, one of 8:00, 8:45

Dolby Digital (non THX):
Every day: 1:40, 5:20, one of 8:00, 8:45

(These two are the biggest theatres in the complex)

Also:
As I had enquired from AMCs at one time, their audio format is SDDS or Dolby SRD. Dolby SRD is digital but not true digital surround. It's mainly Front Channels.

As Indian Films don't use SDDS, 'Dolby Digital THX' is the best to catch.

MONTREAL:
AMC:
Dolby SRD

FP8 Pointe Claire (Famous Players):
They say "Dolby Digital" (no THX)

watched Armaan today... was a good film and was slightly different from the rest of the run of the mill bullshit coming out of India - the land of the great :bash: !! anyway... AB was kinda wasted and died about 45 minutes into the movie.... he didnt really have a major part and was wasted... by the way he looks pregnent... dont ask why but he looks awful on screen!! Anil kapoor was good... preity was great and most of all gracy singh looks fresh and sweet... (she looks too much like a female that im supposed to be getting married to... but thats a differnt story) Songs were shit.... technical aspects were ok even tho i cud see the boom mic on a number of occasions!! Anyway its worth watching, even if its for AB.......

Really!
Which scenes. I'll be seeing this film in theatre and will look for them.

Does it mean they didn't matt enough? Or, may be the screening should have been 2.35:1 out of a 1.85:1 frame, i.e. matting at the top and at the bottom of the 1.85:1 frame?? I doubt, Boom mikes are ever visible in 2.35:1 presentations.

I too, just came back from watching this fim.... I thought it was pretty bad... in all a dull film. The story is uninspiring, Anil looks like Preeti's dad than lover!

Abby though, looks and acts well.... the only interesting part of the film...

:nopity: * out of *****
