It is first in Telugu w/ Venkatesh and now in Hindi w/ Sunny...

Sunny Deol in remake!

Remaking films is not new to Bollywood. The filmmakers are always being inspired by a hit film and try to recreate the same magic. Director Gautam Menon is all set to remake the Hindi version of Khaka Khaka, which was a super hit down south. Sunny Deol will lead the cast. Earlier, Feroz Khan was supposed to remake the film but things did not materialize so Gautam decided to remake it himself.

Well, I am excited about both remakes but I am disappointed w/ the casting - Sunny & Venkatesh!?!?

Personally, I would like to have seen Nag in the Telugu version and maybe either Salman or Suniel (even Vivek) in the Hindi

I would even prefer Bobby rather than Sunny

What do you guys think?

Will be a flop. He does not have the charisma or the youth of Surya to carry this role.

AB TAK CHAPPAN has already been made which is essentially the same genre as KHAAKA KHAAKA. I dont see anything new being offered here....at least the original was raw and gutsy and a first for Tamil movies, the novelty of the theme is missing for hindi film viewers and hence will be just another remake. I dont see it working.

Gautham said in an interview that the telugu film will look different than the original - it will have a much larger budget and improved fight choreography

It seems like he wants to make it less realistic and more into an action film..

It could be interesting

Did you guys also hear about the Hollywood remake?

Instead of an encounter cop against rowdies it will supposedly be a Russian soldier against Chechen rebels!

I wonder if they will remove or change the scenes taken from "Shaft" and "Seven"?

Sunny in Gautham Menon's film

By Taran Adarsh, July 21st, 2004 - 0930 hrs IST

Remember Gautham Menon, who directed Madhavan's debut vehicle in Hindi, REHNAA HAI TERE DIL MEIN? Well, after a gap of almost three years, Menon is all set to start his second Hindi film, with Sunny Deol essaying the lead role.

A remake of Menon's Tamil hit KAAKHA KAAKHA [Surya, Jyotika], the film has also been made in Telugu [GARSHANA], with Venkatesh essaying the role of the protagonist. In fact, at a point of time, Fardeen Khan was being considered for the main role in the Hindi version. Now, it's Sunny.

“Believe me, I had written the script almost five years ago with Sunny in mind,” Menon divulges, “When Sunny saw the Tamil version before leaving for the U.S., he agreed to do the film instantaneously and has even allotted dates from July to September next year.”

While the balance cast is being finalized, the film will have music by Harris Jayraj [remember the mesmerizing 'Zara Zara' from R.H.T.D.M.?], lyrics by Sameer and stunts by Peter Haine.

Now, this guy really sucks, he better would have been in modeling rather than in acting field. Some people dont know even the basics of acting and they come into this field. This guy is one of them. I peronally think that the director made the right choice of taking venky, as he is having the exact body and carry perfect expressions in face as is required. I am not Venky's Fan but yeah i certainly like his acting talents. he is the guy made different kind of movies in his career. Rather than Nagarjuna, who even at 50 would be running around the trees. Grow Up "mentally" Big Boy!

Obviously Nag isn't the greatest actor, but in terms of charisma and energy, I think he would fit well in the film

I don't think Venkatesh can do the same

I guess it remains to be seen

Most importantly, I hope that Jeevan is in the hindi remake

Personally, though Surya was great, I thought Jeevan matched his performance

Jeevan was such a great opponent for Surya that you truly looked forward to the confrontations between the two

I can't see anyone else in his role

"AB TAK CHAPPAN has already been made which is essentially the same genre as KHAAKA KHAAKA"

If by this you are saying that they are both encounter cop films - yes

But in the same genre - definitely not, I must disagree

KK was a complete commercial film (though much more intense and hard hitting than the usual) w/ plenty of action & romance thrown in. Whereas AT56 was in a whole other category - realistic, grimy, almost docudrama -from the "French Connection" school of cop films!

In fact, I would even call it the Indian "French Connection"!

I would say that only few other Indian films are in this category - Ardh Satya, Kagaar - though I personally think AT56 is far ahead of these

Similarly, "French Connection" is easily the greatest cop film ever, and 33 years later, is still yet to be matched

Just as, I believe that AT56 is the greatest Indian cop film ever and will not likely be matched for years

All we are exposed to these days is trash like "Training Day" and "Swat" in HW and trash like "Dev" and "Khakee" in BW (though this is just my opinion)

Anyways - to get back on topic - I completely agree with the rest of your point - with the whole flow of recent cop films in the same genre (Aan, Khakee, Garv) - this film will most likely not work at the bo

Like "Run" all over again - Though I hope not as this is definitely a great film deserving of recognition

I think you are correct.....if one were to slot it thus then they belong to two totally different schools of film making. But thinking about it from the man on the road's point of view, is he going to differentiate thus? I wonder. He will in all probability say

'Arre yeh toh wohi isshtory hai. Hero enconteer inspector hai. Uski biwi/lover ko villain utha leta hai/maar deta hai. Hero badla leta hai. The End'. (note all spelling mistakes on purpose:-)

A couple of line synopsis from the guy who watches movies sitting in upper stall. But you never know actually. This is the same guy that wants those songs thrown in every half hour so and likes Sunny Deol to flex muscles and scream 'Kutte...main tera khoon peejaaonga'.....it could work, you never know :-)

Nag? No way! Venkatesh is a much better actor and excelled at this kind of serious roles (Ganesh is an example) unlike Nag who fits better in romantic (too old for them now!) or stand-still roles!

The telugu version is named Gharshana and is already creating tremendous crazy in trade circles. Sold at insanely high price for US! Hope it clicks like the original.

Check out stilss here http://www.idlebrain.com/download/gharshana.html

 Ya, that is true

I am still looking forward to both versions though, esp after the whole flow of bad cop films lately (Police Force, Garv, Aan, Khakee, Dev, Gambeeram...) :x

You didn't like Nag in "Nenunnanu"? I thought he made a great romantic lead

Anyways, do you know if Jeevan is in "Gharshana"?

Not sure abt Jeevan. Jeevan might have made it to Telugu as well since, Gautam used the same main cast (4 cops) to support Venkatesh in Telugu as well. I doubt if an award winning villian will be replaced! More stills from Gharshana http://www.idlebrain.com/movie/photogal ... shana.html

Nag is in mid to high 40s but does fit well for romantic stories as long as it doesn't have collage backdrop :D !!! Nag did well in Nenunnanu but I really didn't like the money as that story line was used several times and the narration was slow! Music is the only good part in that movie.

Jeevan has been replaced by "Salim". I do not know who that is but apparently he acted in one of Teja's films

From the stills Venkatesh looks pretty cool. He looks very tough, may be even tougher and mature than Surya. Asin is cute but I don't know if she has the charm of Jhoythika. IMO, Jeevan should've played the role of the Villian. He was a total bad asssssssss!!!! 8)
