I am glad he won, but quite honestly the soundtrack itself is one Rahman's most dissapointing albums. I am seriously left wondering what is it that the west is hearing in this album that I am not. I can think of atleast a couple ofdozen albums of Rahman that totally outshine 'Slumdog Millionaire'.

In any case, the guy deserves accolades for achieving this, after all it's not like in Bollywood where your uncle, aunt etc. etc. or friend can get you the awards.

IT was great just to see A.R.Rahman, Anil Kapoor and Shah Rukh Khan on stage. Bravo ARR.

I saw the film and don't recall noticing any music, except for the end credits video number ?? May be, that's the strength of background music that it fits the scenario and you don't even notice it ??

Likewise, but it is his collaboration with M.I.A that had me immensely excited about the music of SDM. Nontheless, Rahman is without exception more deserving than just a Gloden Globe. Also, this might be a lame question, but did Rahman also compose "paper planes"?

No, Rahman did not compose Paper Planes.

BTW, the T-Series Indian CD of the Slumdog soundtrack is missing the non ARR songs:

Paper Planes
Paper Planes Remix
Aaj Ki Raat (from Don)

I didnt see the movie, will catch up on jan 23rd when its getting released here. I am sure there are so many other better sound track of ARR you can find, but mostly with Indian directors, where the movie is a total crap AND copied from hollywood. i think its not just his music, but the whole package, which elevated his music as well.

As rana said, if music doesnt bother you and gone un-noticed, its a win win.

Looking back all ARR projects, i can only think of Lagaan and Kannathil Muththamittal have such a good package and now TZP. At present he is the ONLY hope that we all (Indians) have in the near future for Oscar. May be AK for TZP, but still that would be classified as "foreign" film.

Kudos to ARR and keep our fingers crossed for Oscar.

That's too bad, I had initially believed, since I had heard it first when I saw the film, that Rahman composed this boom-box blasting song. Now only to realize, that perhaps the best composition from the film, isn't even his.

Wow! We woke up on the same side of the bed, WORLDS apart :lol:he has lifted 3 numbers, remixed them, plus a guest composer! It is just hype around studio and film imho. If you want to listen to orig then WATER was it, but their quality came from MIKE DANA! and VANRAJ BHATIA for NAMESAKE! VB is amazing composer!
This is coming from ARR fan! Nevertheless, he is much better than the rest of hindi movie composer gang out there.

Now with 3 Oscar nominations he will most likely win at least one. Overdue recognition.

But it would have been so much nicer if the award was not for such mediocre work such as 'Slumdog MIllionaire'.
