I beg to differ. I feel Abhishek could have been a lot louder and melodramatic, for example in the climax scene when he finds out about Hrithik and Kareena. He also could have jumped around and made a total fool of himself in the Friendship Day scene, but didn't. And Hrithik's character may have been loud, but underplaying it could have done it the world of good. I believe Hrithik's character could have been likeable, but the way he played it, he ended up being one of the most irritating things I have seen in a long time.

I don't think so. The script does not ask him to do
tantrums. Anyway, the actors give Barjatya what he wants.
If he wants Abishek loud he will get it. He wanted him
the opposite of the other Prem, so he got it. Underplaying
the first Prem would have made a more satisfying
character, but Barjatya's concept is different. He needs
the first Prem to go overboard and the second to be the
opposite. The problem is Barjatya, not the actors.
Loved this review, by the way:

I concur again..This is the way BHARJATYA, concieved these CHARACTERS, and he was the one to say "CUT" "OK" after each scene!!

I am SHOCKED, BHARJATYA was ABLE TO KEEP another LOUD ACTOR SALLU TAMED/RESTRAINED, in both HAHK/HSSH...

Saale Sooraj ki aqal, kahan ghass charne gaii thee!!??

He should have stayed with SALLU as his PREM!

and should have STAYED with RAM LAXMAN, bringing a GUEST COMPOSER to compose ISHQ KAMINA, for him, if required!! :baaa: :stupid:

BASHING continues..M.F. Hussain..DISGUSTED with SOORAJ hua MADHAM:

SOORAJ SHOCKS HUSSAIN

By Out Staff

In The News

M.F.Hussain saw Sooraj Barjatya's 'Hum Aapke Hain Kaun' over 100 times and even did a series of paintings on it. The Madhuri Dixit-Salman Khan starrer fascinated him. But today, Husain is a dejected man, his favorite director Sooraj Barjatya has let him down. 'Main Prem Ki Diwani Hoon' was so unbearable for Husain that he couldn't help but walk out of the theatre after watching the film for just half an hour. "I was shocked to see someone like Sooraj Barjatya make such a horrible film.

I always thought Sooraj was one filmmaker who correctly depicted the Indian culture on celluloid, unlike other filmmakers who only try aping the West. But this time it looked he tried copying Karan Johar, Aditya Chopra and Farhan Akhtar by introducing the jeans-and-coke culture in the movie."

The painter is shocked and expresses it in so many words. "How can the man claim that he worked on the script for three years and come out with such crap.

It gave me such a bad feeling. I felt as if someone had died in my house!"

As for the performances in the film, Husain feels that the director has failed the actors completely. "Kareena has tried very hard but what can she do if the script does not support her.

Hrithik Roshan was a disaster. One hopes his father makes up for the damage. He is such a handsome boy. I always liked actors with such long face-cuts. They look manly unlike our other actors who have tomato-like faces, which don't appeal to me.

I am told Abhishek was good in the movie, but then, anyone would have looked better than Hrithik after what he had been made to do in the film."

Husain can't resist the mention of his pet Madhuri Dixit. Her absence can be sorely felt in all of Sooraj's next films. 'Hum Saath Saath Hain' was a hopeless film but it at least had some Indian sensibilities, which appealed to the Indian audience, Husain stresses.

"All these years, Sooraj Barjatya was media shy, but today he comes out in the open to defend a movie like this. It only goes to show the bankruptcy of his intelligence," regrets Hussain.

This guy thinks HAHK represents Indian culture? No Hindus I know prance around their houses singing Wah Wah Ramji and Joote Dedo Paise Lelo! Not even during weddings! :) :baaa:

He shouldn't be lumping Farhan Akhtar in with Karan Johar and Aditya Chopra. DCH wasn't perfect, but it was a decent representation of urban youth in India. More accurate than anything in K3G or DDLJ.

No, I'm angry he 'completely surrendered to Barjatya's vision" as he put it. He should have resisted. Too much in awe of 'big' names. It was the same with Ghai.

DDLJ had some facets of realism in its depiction of urban youths, I thought this was quite obvious in its screenplay? Also, HAHK was a far cry from representing the Indian Culture, but I didn't think film had any intentions of showing anything shameful, I'm hindu, I find myself to even this day singing and humming the songs of HAHK, I've even been to numerous functions in recent memory that still play the songs from HAHK.

I had time, so I went to see the film the other day. And what a monstrosity it was. A completely pointless of a 200 mintue film. No entertaining merit what so ever, this film makes Karan Johar's work look like a masterwork. Hands down Hrithik Roshan's most contemptible performance(and I say this, because he has potentials to do much better). Surprisingly, Kareena Kapoor didn't have the "poo" hangover, which isn't saying much. Abhishek Bachchan was likeable, but bringing him in the second half of the film didn't do anything to enhance the film in any way. With the exception of one decent song, they were all annoying. This is possibly the first bollywood film ever to use the term "sex" more than once and it tries to philosophically make something out of it, but it leads to nothing(very contrived). Pointless animal animation which leads to nothing. I thought its dialogues & screenplay was offensive towards the way Indian mentality "thinks". The best thing I would say that I liked about this film is that, I strongly think I spotted a Van Gogh painting in Sanjana's house--if so, I think it must have been unintentially placed there. It's hard to believe that the same guy that made great entertainers like Maine Pyar Kiya, Hum Aapke Hain Kuan..and to a lesser extent Hum Saath-Saath Hain made this piece of..well calling it "trash" would only be an understatement--its beyond. Absolutely one of the worst films I've seen in recent times.

1/2* (out of 5)
