Monsoon Wedding is a great film and an all time classic, atleast in my opinion it is. I have not seen 'Namesake' yet and I found Kama Sutra to be trash, Vanity Fair below average, but even then, just based on 'Monsoon Wedding' I feel that, 'overrated' is definately a word that does not apply to Mira Nair. I have seen 'Monsoon Wedding' umpteen times and each time I like the film even more.

Talking of Monsoon Wedding, does any one know if the song "Rabba Rabba Meein Varsaa" is shown complete in any DVD or in any song DVD ?? The official version avail in North America has no more than 30-40 sec of video of that song while I have seen full 3-4 min version on TV ??

I don't know of a full 3-4 min version of that song that has been shown. I don't think there is an official "video" of the song. It's the same 30-40 sec promo that is sometimes shown in loops. That 30-40 sec promo looks like it was taken from the trailer. In the film the song is played over the wedding preparations and the end credits.

I'm certain of 3-4 min video version as I even recorded it on VHS off TV broadcast (It was aired more than once). It's more than what's in end credits and what's in the main feature, combined (same as in audio CD). Of course audio is just that of TV broadcast quality and hence I'd love to have it in DVD video-audio quality.

Is it an actual music video or just a promo showing scenes from the film? It would've been nice for this to be included on DVD. I think it was in Europe somewhere that the songs/soundtrack was popular so maybe you should check to see if the European DVD's have this version as a bonus feature?

One part of The Namesake I really didn't like was when Gogol was getting his head shaved with this hip-hop tune playing over the soundtrack. The use of hip-hop was so out of place for that scene, what was Mira thinking!

Why was it out of place? Considering the place where he has his head shaved, it was very apt. It was not background music, but the music was playing in that place.

Namesake seems to be going "Bend It Like Bekham" way, Box Office wise.

In it's 3rd weekend, it collected $ 1.3 Million for a total of $ 2.6 million so far from the US Box Office (Ranked # 15). They have been adding number of screens so far and it looks like another jump week starting Tomorrow. (It hasn't made to smaller centres like Ottawa yet).

Namesake seems to have fizzled out e weeks shy of Silver Jubilee run in the US. Boxofficemojo.com lists it's 22nd weekend collections at $ 891 on 4 screens and none listed after that. Total US collections @ $ 13.57 Million.
