rana bhai bad news!

Spooky 'Bhoot' makes Bollywood smile Monday, 02 June , 2003, 16:28 Mumbai: Smiles are back in Mumbai's beleaguered film industry with Ramgopal Verma's 'Bhoot', which released last week, showing all signs of a blockbuster. Trade analyst Amod Mehra told UNI that things are beginning to look up for the film industry after a disastrous 2002.

''Bhoot, is doing very well all over the country and will go strong in weeks to come and this is a good sign,'' he said.

'Bhoot' boasts of a power-packed star cast like Ajay Devgan, Urmila Matondkar, Rekha, Tanuja, Seema Biswas, Nana Patekar, Victor Banerjee and Fardeen Khan. Described as an urban-super natural thriller, the film is getting rave reviews.

Though Akshay Kumar-Lara Dutta-Priyanka Chopra starrer 'Andaaz' which was released in last week, had a bumper opening, the collections fell drastically after four days, Mehra said. But the film is likely to recover its costs.

Pooja Bhatt's 'Jism', starring Bipasha Basu and John Abraham, is 2003's only claim to fame so far. The films which did reasonably well include David Dhawan's 'Ek Aur Ek Gyarah' and Tips' 'Ishq Vishq', he said.

Mehra said the other big-budget films to be released in the first half of 2003 include Shah Rukh Khan's home production 'Chalte Chalte' and Sooraj Barjatya's 'Main Prem Ki Diwani Hoon'. Both films are being eagerly awaited as 'Chalte Chalte' will be Shah Rukh's first film after his spine surgery, whereas 'Main Prem Ki Diwani Hoon' (MPKDH) will see an ensemble of mega starcast comprising Hrithik, Kareena and Abhishek Bachchan together for the first time.

Much is at stake for all the three young actors in the film as none of them have had a good run at the box office recently. It remains to be seen whether the midas touch of Sooraj Barjatya, maker of Hindi cinema's biggest blockbusters of all times 'Maine Pyar Kiya' and 'Hum Apke Hain Kaun' will work for the three actors in his latest venture. What's the BAD NEWS dograk??

I'm glad that BHOOT is doing well. Andaaz too recovered its cost in the first week itself.

Regarding ANDAAZ 'collections fell after 4 days'; 3 Day later report said, "93% collections in Bombay ckt". Moreover, it already recovered its cost. That's a good news too.
What counts the most is that I liked the film and will get a chance to see it again this weekend.:D

'Whenever critics like a film, it fails'

http://www.rediff.com/entertai/2003/jun/03akshay.htm

AKSHAY:

His latest release, Raj Kanwar's Andaaz, may well become 2003's first blockbuster. Yet, the Hindi film industry refuses to acknowledge it! The film, which also stars former Miss Universe Lara Dutta and former Miss World Priyanka Chopra, was released almost two weeks ago.

Q: The Mumbai critics have trashed the film and your performance.

A: I was hoping they would. Whenever they like a film, it fails. These things do not matter.

Q: Andaaz is a hit, but the film industry isn't willing to accept it.

A: I wonder why! Everyone grumbles about the famine of hits. Why can't we feel happy when a film finally does well? Instead, people ask, "Film giri ki nahin?" Why wait for Andaaz or any other film to fall? Why not pray for everyone's success? I am very hurt by the way Andaaz has been dismissed by my colleagues.

Well!! now I have a problem!! I DONT VALUE, CLAIMS by an ACTPR/ACTRESS/DIRECTOR's claim, for his film being HIT!!

LET Public/CRITIC/Numbers decide!!

If we go by CLAIMS CRITERIA, all GHAII films/recent S*s are Hit!!etc etc!!YAADEIN was SUPER HIT/S*

Wait a minute! Give me a break? guys!!

POO/APE flick, by VASHU, MKKH< might be a HIT/WIT, but indeed it was not a GOOD film, imho

Searching for some other topic, came across this thread.

Paying public proved every film reviewer, as well as, all trade pundits wrong by making ANDAAZ the 6th ( actually only 5th as MBBS made its money mainly in 2004) biggest grosser and 4th biggest profit maker of 2003.
http://www.boxofficeindia.com/2003.htm

It's total net gross (22.5 cr) was behind KMG (42.2 cr), KHNH (33.2+ cr), The Hero (26 cr), MBBS (23.5+ cr), Baaghbaan (23.2 cr).
(Bhoot @ 13 cr, MPKDH @ 18.7 cr)

It's profit share (88%) was behind KMG (109%), MBBS (106+ %), Baaghbaan (94%), but all four are classified in the same category as A1 Hits (75-125% profit).
(KHNH @ 52%, Bhoot @ 23%, MPKDH @ 6%)
