This sequence is in both, DEI-EROS version a well as in EROS Director's cut version. Was it missing in any of Sholay versions??

IMo she is just a pretty face. She does not have the screen presence or the stature of Jaya Bacchan and to a lesser extent Hema Malini

I haven't seen those DVD's. The version of Sholay I had originally seen was the one shown on Channel 4 in the UK. It was uncut at the time as Channel 4 rarely cuts Indian films unless shown in the daytime. This version had none of the prison sequence and a few other scenes that I had seen later in the directors cut on Zee TV. The Channel 4 version as well as the Zee TV version, had the Gabbar being arrested ending.

But Zee had shown in the late nineties a version of Sholay that was identical with the Channel 4 version, except the ending had Gabbar falling on a spike. This earlier version shown by Zee had none of the comedy or the prison sequence either. Which makes me thing this prison sequence is a later addition.

I don't know what version of Sholay was originally shown in India, but now it seens there are 4 versions of the same film!

The new Sholay shouldn't have comedy

I am w/ you dude, the new sholay should be comedy-free

but it is interesting you say that - it is still not clear whether ramu is going to make this a complete commercial entertainer like the original OR if he is going to make this in the usual rgv-style

I seriously hope it is the latter

ya but you gotta think abt the character

it is obvious that katrina is no jaya (in terms of acting)

but jaya's character in sholay really did not have much to do… I am sure katrina will not have any problems playing the part

and as to who will play hema’s part - my vote goes to nisha kothari :) …she would be perfect

Thinking of the dancing on glass set in a more modern setting - Shilpa Shetty come to mind or Priyanka Chopra

I wanna drool over Nisha again....I mean.....I wanna see her again :P

as for Comedy, most if not all of RGV films have subtle comedy. Sholay won't be any different?

From what I heard RGV is going to do it in his style and it will be set in the Mumbai underworld. This sort of film should't have comedy, even subtle comedy may make it look like a black comedy, which shouldn't be the intention as it won't be taken seriously. I don't know how they could do comic moments in such a serious and dark, gritty setting.
Of couse there are going to be those who will be dissapointed already if he doesn't do it as a mass-entertainer, not all filmgoers like his style of film.

RGV has a tendency to latch-onto actors he's just worked with. He did this many times. As Sarkar was his last film, he's roped in AB Jr, AB Sr and Katrina Kaif all from Sarkar. Just like he did Vivek Oberoi and Antara Mali for Comapny and Road. I don't think he's very wise in casting. If this is some funny 'RGV' tradition he follows he should drop it at least for Sholay's sake. If you mess up Sholay it could be the nail on the coffin.

hey guys, the latest news is that ramu has got ajay to play veeru!

though saif not doing the part definitely sucks  but I don’t blame the guy, 'omar' seems awesome also

but nonetheless ajay will be a great addition to the cast - the ramu/ajay combo is always awesome

imo the ideal cast would be saif as veer and ajay as jai (just like 'kache dhaage')

Asrani's "Hum Angrazon ke zamaane ke jailer hain!" sequence is awesome. I love every bit of Sholay, and can only cringe when I imagine the trash that Varma will come up with.

Shut up. Just...shut up. I find it utterly idiotic when people's reponse to "I don't want to see this film re-made" is," don't watch it. It's not valid; it's not sound: it's stupid. I love Sholay; I barely like Ram Gopal Varma. I'm a fan of Indian cinema, and I don't enjoy when some lack of creativity leads to filmmakers' recycling (and, often, trashing) some former classic work. I don't wish Ram Gopal Varma to re-make Sholay. Of course he doesn't "care what I wish" (I feel you might say that); I don't care that he does not. I wish what I wish. Sure, I'll probably see Varma's version, opposed as I may be: it's A DOLLAR of my money — I'll try to bear the loss. That does not, however, indicate my exuberance stemming from Varma's re-making something he cannot possibly re-make successfully (in non-financial terms, that is).

why is it stupid? There are people that like RGV, and there are people that are looking forward to his films, including remake of sholay! I don't like certain types of films, and I avoid them and/or don't cry about them. there is an audience that they are catering to which I'm not part of. simple as that. what's utterly idiotic is that you want to watch his film even though you say it's a waste of your precious time/money & insult to your classic. why do you have to bear the loss of your precious dollar? nobody is forcing you to watch it. you are contradicting your stance by watching this film.

if you don't like his films, or the fact that he is remaking a classic, just don't watch it. you are going to watch it anyway, probably due to curiosity factor & so that you could rip his bum apart after watching the film so you can rant about how the classic is superior and RGV has done a great injustice. when in fact he probably added life to the film.

another thing is that he is not misleading you like other bollywood remakers. 99% of films that ARE remakes of other films don't give notice to the former films, or awareness to the audience. where do you take the loss in him remaking it?

It's easier for you to channel him out of your mind, and for him to channel out audiences that don't want to watch his films, which is exactly what he does.

as for Urmila, I miss her & I can't wait :D
