Hey THANK YOU VERY MUCH for the link. This is a perfect site for what I want to do. I was planning to take up a musical lesson, but this will help me to jump start. Thanks again.

BTW if any one of you here knows Carnatic/Western music, please let me know, so I can clear my doubts as I go thru the learning curve.

Again, my goal is to better appreciate IR's music and nothing else. Otherwise, if I sing, SPB will have to retire!

Currently listening to O Butterfly from Meera, which is a really nice song.

BTW, is the music of Paandiyan (Rajni film) available anywhere online?

"I don't fear about Threats"- Kamal
By MIO Team
Mar 10, 2005, 01:22

There are stones strewn along the path of 'Mumbai Express'. Kamal had come here to participate in the 'Workshop on Media related Laws'. He had spoken in this workshop, and seems to be least worried about the threats.

"Some people had propagated that my film 'Hey ram' was denegrating the Mahatma Gandhi. I incurred loss of many crores because of that criticism. Now there is a demand to change the name of the film 'Mumbai Express'. Let them stop the 'Nellai Express' first.

Is it not the light of political out fits to objects obscenity and naming the films in other languages?

"Yes, they do have the right. But that should be conveyed in a civilized manner like writing letters, speaking over the phone, and by other similar ways. If they had done these things, their demand could have been taken into consideration. But, if they try to force me by instigating violence and by use of threats, that will not be possible. I am ready to face any kind of challenge posed to the film 'Mumbai Express'".

Apart from this, Kamal's speech about Censor Board and its functioning is deserved to be taken note of.

"A few months before, the Marxist leader Harkishan singh Surjeeth had criticized the chief of Censor Board Anupum Kher. Following this, Anupam kher was shown doors from Censor Board. The Censor Board is being filled with the loyal workers of the ruling party. All the parties in the power are implementing this farce continuously, the Censor Board members are allowing films which supports their party and its ideologies".

"Censor Board does not censor the short films and documentary films of the foreign countries here. But the short films and documentary films produced in India, are being allowed to be screened, only after Censor. Because of this, the mistakes committed by the governments and the excess committed by the government are suppressed by the Censor Board"

Kamal's speech had made everybody to listen with attention.

If the government should take note of this, that may lead to the resurgence of the film field.

I agree with Kamal Hassans point on censorship - India's censorship needs a major revamp - it was formulated years before the internet and cable television and those "rules" don’t seem to apply anymore. I wish India could be a bolder by allowing artist complete freedom to exercise their art. Of course there is going to be a many bad elements who will misuse it , but I still think its worth it – I strongly believe that it is worth seeing 1000 porn films in order to finally come across Salo ( a film that will never be “envisioned” in current India). Also I would like to see more "meaningful" political films coming from India, there is sooo much material to work with - Ah I wish for so many things :(

For those intersted here is a link to Indian Censorship Laws

Many important documentaries from Indian filmmakers cannot screen their films in India because of these rules, but they can show them abroad. It is ridiculous.

Could these misguided censorship rules be partly to blame for the vapidity of mainstream fictional Indian cinema? Can film be made that is overtly critical of politics and corruption? This is interesting in light of the thread on Anniyan/Shankar. Corruption is often a plot point in his films, but he wraps it up in so much masala that the message is usually lost in the shuffle. Even Mani Ratnam's Bombay, which probably got as close to overt criticism in fiction in recent years, had its share of the masala elements, though certainly not as bad as Shankar's films.

you mean mumbai express -> not yet. Latest I know is it has 4 songs, 1 by kamal and the others by SPB. The one he sang was an item number with some mumbai pop singer and this is the song ppl are talking the most, because IR seems to have changed completely for this song and rocked. Again, its all in rumor board, we will know on Mar 31st.

BTW all Tamil movies have been postponed except Chandramukhi due to inavailability of theatres (most of the theatres booked Chandramukhi)

Only other film that might be released is Mumbai Express, but that too is not sure.
God Father and Sachin is on May 1st.

Anniyan postponed to end may, but the CD will be out by March 31 (Shankar's usual release date is 2 months prior to movie release)

Out of all Anniayan music, with out any doubt, will rock and be on the top.

Chandramukhi movie will be on top.

Kamals' movie, as usual will be a unique-good movie, but will not have any commercial value (except good DVD sale!)

Was Godfather delayed? Sify had an article saying that PC Sriram is off the project now.

Does ME have some foreign film as its inspiration? Kamal's films tend to be "inspired" with changes.

I was thinking it was pretty bold of people to release so many big banner films at the same time - good to see common sense prevalied.

I have a feeling it "might" be - he was talking about an Italian film several months back , I will be closely watching this one. That said I am looking forward to the collaboration between Sangeetha Srinivasa Rao and Kamal Hassan – it has always been good.

Since this is now the Mumbai Express/IR thread, does anyone know when Thiruvasagam is being released? Last I heard was sometime in April, but the official website is currently down.

http://www.tis-usa.com/ is up and running. probably down for a while for maint.

There was a meeting held at Layola on March 24th to plan the marketting of the CD. CD is still set to be released on April 14th. I ordered 100 copies, but so far no response / anything. I hope that they do something quick, because time is up!

BTW i listen to ME teasor and the songs are not like IR song. If you want to listen

http://www.mumbaixpress.com

click the tamil version, since they didnt update the hindi version. The similarity between CM and ME is that both have telugu words in tamil songs!

http://www.thiruvasakaminsymphony.com/ is currently down.

I could swear I read on tfmpage.com that Sony was going to distribute it, but since they haven't been very successful in South Indian albums I don't know why they'd do it.

I hope that soon we'll get good DVDs of the other Kamal-Singeetham films, like Pushpak and Aboorva Sagotharargal.
