I love the scene in which Jai gets his leg replaced with a prosthetic that shoots lasers and fights those aliens from Mars.

Oops, sorry Yuvan

Sholay strikes gold!

Ashwini Deshmukh / Mumbai Mirror Bureau

The official rights of Sholay will finally go to PNC in a $100 million  deal between Pritish Nandy and Sascha Sippy. PNC will make its sequel, along with an animated version

Much has been written about the Ram Gopal Varma and Sascha Sippy tussle over the rights of Sholay. The court verdict finally landed in favour of Sascha Sippy, chairman of Sholay Media and Entertainment. Ram Gopal Varma had to give up the use of the famous title as well as the popular character names like Basanti, Jai and Veeru and Dhanno.

But there is a new twist in the tale! After denying Ram Gopal Varma, the much sought after rights of this film have now been given to Pritish Nandy Communications to remake the film, officially. That's not all - the film will also be made in an animated version, very soon.

A source adds, "There were many makers who had been vying for the rights of the film, but PNC finally won the deal. Production on the animated version of Sholay is scheduled to start soon. The cast and crew for the official remake is also being planned and top league directors like Shankar, Priyadarshan and Sanjay Gupta  are being considered for this project. After that, the prequel and the sequel will also be made. The $100 million deal was finalised in London today."

When contacted Sascha Sippy confirmed the news saying, "Sholay is undoubtedly the biggest movie brand that India has had and as custodians of that brand we want to be careful and responsible with it. We have chosen Pritish Nandy Communications as our partners as we like and appreciate their work and approach."

Or may be, where both live.

In film world or dream world all is possible. Just Yesterday I was watching tail end of a film (Old "Batman & Robin") where Batman sorts out the molecules from a room, where lots of people had evaporated out of existence, hydrates them (like watering the plants) and Bingo! All come alive. LOL

--------------------------

BTW, RGVK Aag seems to be being ignored by Canadian exhibitors. Only Albion, Woodside, and Silvercity Brampton seem to be showing this film from tomorrow out of Toronto, Montreal and Ottawa.

And the other remake, "Victoria 203" doesn't seem to be scheduled, in any of these three cities, at all.

I would have wanted to see both films in theatre but don't think traveling 400 Km for Aag is worth it.

OMG , this is damn good movie ....... Surprisingly this one matches the magic of old sholay ......

I dont want to reveal the story as there is some shocking element , however much similar to sholay , but movie is treat to watch ....

performence wise BigB rocks as Babban ..... Villian era back with this one(Remember Mogambo or Gabbar or Ajgar)

Ajay is superb ....... he deliver another smash hit performance
Nisha is fine(surpringly)
Parshant is surprise package , one could wonder that he is new comer and still acceptable as role which had done by BigB
rajPal yadav is good
And above all MohanLal ......... superb ...... i am speechless

two actors who will win all awards this year would be BigB and MohanLal ....

Songs are good and one enjoys while watching movie .... Mehbooba and holi song rocks ...... DUM in background is superb.

BackGround music is excellent.

RGV deserves claps for this great venture.. I salute him.

Overall rating **** & 1/2

i have seen aag and its good film.. and it's not like sholay.. and ye there r similarities but u'll be shocked wen u see it and the ending is different...

Big B disappoints a gabbar.. i believe he tries too hard hence goes over the board.
ajay devgan is good. and this veeru is different from veeru we saw in sholay
jai dude is surprisingly good too.. nice stuff
outta the girls, nisha is good.. sush is strictly OK.

but the man that steals the thunder is mohanlal.. i had seen him only in company in which he was fairly good.. this is probably the best performance by an actor this year, surpassing even abhisek's performance in the film guru..

cinematography in the film is good..

RGV is good this time around.. he's either good as or sHit and this time he is good..

music sux..

overall, all i have to say is RGV is back now.. hopefully darling is good too.. sholay is better but this is quiet good too..

****

OK, so the ending is different from the theatrically screened Sholay of 1975! Well well well, so our guesses seem to be correct. So someone who lived might die or vice versa.

And we also seem to be right that Amitabh will come across more of a caricature, overacting and hamming to the max...

Rana, even I enjoyed the old Batman movie very much and remember that "evaporation" and "restoration" scene. It was good old Batman kicking ass without getting bogged down by heavy morality issues.

I'm guessing that RGV the businessman he is, will leave it open to a possible sequel.

Thanks for bringing up Batman & Robin; it reminds me that, no matter how it turns out, Ram Gopal Varma Ki Aag can't possibly be the worst film ever...
