We have no secrets from each other here :D

Yeah, what the hell is dhakka lakka buga? The next time ARR does a bilingual in Hindi and a South Indian language I hope he composes different music for each. It will take longer, but so what.

Didn't Mehboob do the lyrics for Dil Hi Dil Mein? I believe that was also a simultaneous Tamil/Hindi release. Not very good music from that one in either language.

MESMERIZING CHANTS!

DHDM, BESIDES BEING CRAPPITY AFFAIR, JUST LISTEN TO LYRICS, THERE IS SOME SENSIBILITY, BUT THIS TRANSLATING AFFAIR IS TERRIBLE!

It's really difficult to compose music that makes sense for both north and south releases. For example, I perfectly enjoy listening to that Muqabla album in Tamil but it makes me cringe in Hindi. The same goes for even Roja and Bombay. Taal and Dil Se sound weird in Tamil. And Rahman should refrain from using english words like telephone, police, doctor, love, time, super and titanic - or incomprehensible stuff like dhakka lakka buga in songs. I don't know about the south but it doesn't work in Hindi (the occassional Chaiiya Chaiiya is fine :) )

On the other hand, I love the Telugu track in Meenaxi and the Malayalam one in Dil Se. I think they work because they have motivation and aren't there trying hard to sound cool like "Hello doctor, dil ki chori ho gayee". I mean, what the heck is that?!!

Rahman has started using Blaaze to rap in English in quite a few of his Tamil songs, and much of the lyrics in Boys were English. He sometimes uses nonsense lyrics like shakalaka baby or that "booyakka booyakka sha" stuff in Kangalal Kaidhu Sei.

Many Tamil movie titles these days are named like Five Star, New, Boys, Autograph, Kadhal Virus, etc.

Rap sounds incredibly cheesy in Tamil/Indian songs. I wish Rahman would stop using them.

even though i HATE english lyrics in most songs, i didn't mind them much in Boys. they seemed to fit for some reason.

and who's this blaaze guy? is he really popular in the south or some politician's son? i can't understand why rahman uses him all the time.

well, using english, occasionally, absurdity, occasionaly, i dont mind..but when entire sound track is absurd lyrically..that is painful.

Sapnay was translated soundtrack?
Saathiya was partly translated too..but Gulzar/Javaid Akhtar didnt give up, it depends upon versatality and how much mastering of the languages the lyricist have.

all previous rehman's translated Sound tracks, hum se muqabla, love birds, hindustani, dil hi dil maen, love birds, chor chor, love u hamesha, had been ABSURD mostly..less than desirable!! hotch potch job!

But from Mni Ratnam/Rehman, when they were makinfg film, simeltaneously SEPERATE in TWO different LANGUAGES( NO DUBBING) coming out with SOUNDTRACK like HINDI YUVA..is UNFORGIVABLE imho.

I agree, YUVA has some good music arrangements, but it is literaly, that Rehman is BACK STABBED by POOR LYRICAL choice for this album..

ALAVANDHAN/ABHAY were WROTE SEPERATELY!

Illaya Raja had a UNDOABLE task, to give music to ALREADY PICTURIZED songs on tunes by SUBRAMINIUM..who backed out, leaving HEY RAM in JEOPARDY..but results were amazingly good!

I for one like Rahman's approach towards the English music & singing, particularly in Boys, with the song "Dating". Unintentionally, I suppose, Rahman has absorbed the tone for soft-core Reggae music. And infact, "Dating" actually evokes a certain favourite Raggae song of mine called "Pass The Dutchie" by Musical Youth. From what I make out of this is that, the output of almost every new Rahman album has atleast one song inwhich he is trying something new (again, intentionaly or not from his end), but for a music lover like myself, I'm certainly noticing it.

As for Yuva, I believe it's initial rejection will be short lived, again, Rahman here is utilizing his talent, he now seems to be hooked with underground jungle music.

In Enakku 18 Unakku 20, the song "Kama Kama" has some Shaggy-style singing.

Browsing through the Inspired Indian Film Songs page, it is interesting to see how Indian MDs have been influenced by, and in many cases blatantly copied, foreign music. Sometimes the inspiration is loose, like Anbe Anbe/Tauba Tauba from Jeans and a track from The Last Temptation of Christ. Even ARR has lifted some beats at times, but overall he's good at creating his own Western-influenced music. I didn't think Dating sounded like Pass the Dutchie, but it does have a reggae feel

I love Yuva. It has been marred by poor lyrics by Mehboob...but it's a great album. Rahman's expands his musical influences in this album to create a great album musically, but Venus should have picked up on the poor lyrics. I don't know if it's a language barrier or something, but there is no excuse for such incompetance. Now that I've heard all 3 versions, sounds like the hindi version was composed as it was the first version to commence shooting and the lyrics flow the best in hindi, despite their crapiness. Javed Akthar did dubbed albums like Sapnay and Jeans and the results were far far superior. And Dil Hi Dil Mein was a dubbed flick, Kaadhalar Dhinam came out first.

Rahman's next is the Tamil/Telugu multilingual New/Naani. I've heard it, and it's yet another average album. Spiderman has to be one of the worst Rahman songs I have ever heard....and I'm a diehard fan. What was he thinking?

Spiderman's not the best song on the album, but I like the other tracks, even if If You Wanna sounds like a Spice Girls song :)

I love REHMAN too, but my apology to others..Albums like LAKEER, ONE OF BIGGIES like YUVA, and to some extent recycled material, with poor translated junk, some included in TEHZEEB, does not suit well/Gell well, with a composer of Rehman status!

BH, bro, when u did not understand TAMIL/TELUGU, how can u tell, that LYRICS flow better there?and are SENSIBLE? LOL

Telefone dhun maen hansne waali, flows too? but still it is crappy lyrics!

Tou moonch waala poda hai kya? I would love to hear what was tamil lyrics in Nayak, equivalent? any one with translation? or they were equally ABSURD!?
