Found it. It lost the 10th nomination to itself. "Jai Ho" against "O Saaya".

AR Rahman and his group did get to perform at the Oscars ceremony but despite the live music, including humongous drums, had no juice in the "Jai Ho" number without Sukhvinder. I wonder why was Sukhvinder not included ??

It was VISA problems.

Some excerpts:
Quote:
http://music.ndtv.com/Music_Story.aspx? ... musicindia

Sukhwinder, who has sung Jai ho from the film Slumdog, feels that Jai ho's popularity and victory is blessed by lord Shiva because it's not a song but a prayer to the almighty.

I was confident that the song will win Oscar because you know the Oscar award ceremony has taken place on this spiritual day of Mahashivratri. "

Asked if he is disappointed for not being present at the Oscar Award ceremony, he says, "No, I am not disappointed because Jai Ho has achieved what we expected and the international glory has come to the country. I don't regret it in terms of my personal loss for not performing at the Oscars but yes I feel that had I performed there, it would have a matter of pride for our own countrymen. Indian music has already a had magical effect at the Oscars."

Sharing the reasons behind missing the opportunity to be present at the Oscars, Sukhwinder said, "I was supposed to get a performance visa from Fox but they botched up and it delayed. Anyway this is not something bothering me much. I am very happy and satisfied that lord Shiva has showed his love and we achieved."

(As far as Gulzar is concerned, you can never find enough words to praise him). I was really thrilled when I heard words like Zariwale Aasman.

- - - when I heard words like Zariwale Aasman.

Recall old phrase/ word "Zari Wali "Chunni/ Sari/ clothes etc "
Tiny colorful dots on clothing.
In the song "Zari Wala Asman" is ceiling on their heads.

It was a zero budget film. A big financial boost the film received was $ 15,000 from Toronto Intl Film Festival, as Danny Boyle said. A big amount for them in Oct 2008 when they were struggling for each penny. Film was ready to release, "direct to DVD" as there were no takers.

It has already grossed $ 150 Million and it just received a big boost at the box office by wiping out the Oscars. (Its daily collections have doubled as compared to same days last week.)

I don't know, even if I'm alone, I feel a lot of the awards weren't deserved. A.R. Rahman is a tremendously talented and prolific musician, but, in my opinion, his work for Slumdog Millionaire was nothing special (I believe he's just not what he was during the 1990s, anyway). As for "Best Picture, 2008," there wasn't a lot of "great" competition this year, but I think Benjamin Button was quite better than Slumdog, especially as a whole, cohesive piece.

They showed several, though all were just about a second or so; most prominent were those from Zanjeer.

I was thinking particularly of the clip where Amitabh is beating a guy with a wooden leg! That looks wild!
