GUys check out Mohanlal's list... It lists Company as one of the best films !!!! Now this stinks..(just as Ghai's Taal stinks)... Why could he not include his own "Kathapurusham" ?

I have wanted to see Kalpana for a while. Is it available on VHS or VCD?

Hi all

I have recently come across a 78RPM record of Kalpana. I have not found anything at all about the movie being available or the songs being available. Rather than hog the record if indeed this is a rare find I would like to get the sound files to some indian music archive. Does anyone know if anyone will be interested?

I do not have a 78RPM cartridge on my record player right now - however I played it through on a friend's turntable and the song that stuck in my mind was a Radha Krishna Leela ... the second song seems to be a trip around India with lines in Gujrati, Bengali, Hindi etc (well those were the languages that I recognised!)

I found this record in Oxfam (of all places!)

Thanks!

I've seen a few Hindi film LPs in used bookstores (nothing that I bought) but never anything as interesting as what you found.

One day I'm going to visit Chor Bazaar and bring back a suitcase full of records :D

Interesting.

Muz, I guess, you found 78 RPM record from the 1948 Uday Shakar's film, music by Vishnudas Shirali .

There are 3 other entries, for Kalpana, title at imdb, including a 1960 film Kalpana with Ashok Kumar and Padmini, Ragini and music by O P Nayyar.

BTW, it'll be easier to find Uday Shankar (hoping, it's the same Uday Shankar) footage avail in 2001 documentary film " Ravi Shankar: Between Two Worlds (2001) "
http://finnish.imdb.com/title/tt0354862/
Cast
Anoushka Shankar ... Herself
Ravi Shankar ... Himself
Uday Shankar ... Himself (archive footage)

Hi Rana - yes it's the 1948 78RPM record from the Uday Shankar film - I think I am going to order a 78RPM cartridge and digitise the song before something happens to the record! I have stored it away in a cupboard inside a hard container - but still I would hate for it to get broken!

Nowadays whenever I see any used Hindi records I buy them! They are getting more and more valuable - has anyone checked eBay recently for Hindi records? WOW! I saw a copy of Shalimar go for $160!

Wow! Was that asking price or it actually sold for $ 160 ?? I have many LPs, no 78s though, in storage including Shalimar.

If you have Shalimar and you want to sell it now would be a good time! You can set a good asking price and you will probably get more!
