I can't call Meenaxi the best film I've seen this year, since it is the ONLY Indian film I've seen this year but it was great. It doesn't really have the circus atmosphere of a Fellini movie, but the struggling writer is sort of like Mastroiani in 8 1/2, and the use of colors can be compared to Juliet of the Spirits. Didn't notice that before.

Wow, I didn't know we had a Fellini fan on Zulm. With Meenaxi, I thought it was OK, but not as great as some people make out, but since there have only been a few good films this year it could be up there. I heard Hussain pulled the film over the lyrics, but then shouldn't the music album be withdrawn too?

I thought the concept of "a beautiful confusion" is what led me to say that Meenaxi has that odd touch of Fellini. And yes, the part of the struggling writer's similarities to the filmmaker in 8 1/2 is part of it.

And the films use of unusual art paintings and real life decor's might intentionally be that of Hussain's own artistic vision. But it also recall's the style of Fellini, where even the most minor peace of tool of each scene is fully utilized for it's attention. Much more, it recall's the style Guy Maddin, where the use of colour is soo deeply consumed, it enriches the look of every scene.

I saw Meenakshi and found it to be very boring. The narration was bery impressive and the photography, but the subject matter lost my interest pretty early on. Tabu was great as usual, but her accent in prague was a turn off.

Maqbool is by far the best film of this year. Followed by Ek Hasina Thi, Ab Tak Chappan & then Khaakee. Chameli was just ok and Murder I have not seen so I cannot comment.l

Yeah, the Prague accent was weird, but it didn't bother me too much.

Maddin's movies are next to impossible to find here. I'm mostly relying on CBC (Canadian Broadcasting Corporation) to show another Guy Maddin feature film. It was on CBC where I cought my first Maddin film, "Dracula: Pages From a Virgin's Diary".

Chameli
Munnabhai (very good in peices)

AB TAK CHAPAN, What a BRILLIANT FILM..I wish there would be atleast 56 films like this in bOLLYWOOD, but they dont EXIST!

Nana Patekar is BRILLIANT as EVER!! He is IN LEAGUE OF SOME EXTRA ORDINARY performers imho..

The UTMOST ease that he portrays his Character with , is UNSEEN!!

My Salute to him!!

BTW! Who wrote Diologues? Back ground score and Diologues were SUPER! Even there was quiet a bit FOUL LANGUAGE but that CONTRIBUTED to MOOD of the FILM! IMHO..

EHT/ATC are MUST WATCH..just for SHEER GOOD CINEMA!

I only recently saw Ab Tak Chapan and I'd have to agree it's one of the best films of the year, along with Khakee. But so far this year has produced alot of mediocre - average films so far. Hopefully Lakshya could change that.
