well i saw it at AMC Kennedy Commons on sat nite and i noticed alot of directional effects esp during the songs, the car race, and the horse races. the bass was really awesome and all of the songs were really loud (as if the volume was intentionally increased). During the horse race, you could feel the hooves hitting the ground with each step and well the final race was just amazing. The bass was pumped up with every rev of the engine and the final explosion just shook the whole theatre up.

Also, the sexy lady song is on the pirate dvd and in theatres. It's the song with Katrina and Saif (not on the CD) and takes place in Cape Town during the second half... Not to go into spoilers, but this is when Anil is interrogating Katrina and then everything goes into flashback about Katrina's visit to Capetown with Saif for 2 days...

Race prints are only DD. No DTS, I assume (I saw only DD logo in end credits. No DTS logo).
Was the sound Left Right Centre directional or all around ?? If all around directional, it implies that AMC Kennedy Commons is full DD equipped ?? As per their e-mail reply, their std equip is SDDS and DTS. For DD prints they have front channels SRD only.

I have yet to notice all around directional sounds, from a DD print, at their Kanata location. At most, these are Left Right Centre.

Sexy Lady Song: I did see that song but didn't catch the wordings as "Sexy Lady".

BK INFO: After a long and tiring weekend, I had thought Race wont be for me this weekend as work began to pile on. But luck has it, the most awaited move of the month finally hits screens over the world with sky-high expections, but does the film live up to the expections? Is it good enough as Abbas-Mustan's previous work?



Ups
Abbas-Mustan are the kings of thrillers. They know what sort of factors move the audience. The last two movies of Abbas-Mustan may have not been brillant or superb as some people may put but Race puts them back on the 'track'. Race is not something they have repeated from before which they often do but yes the film does have a few things in which you can tell straight away its a Abbas Mustan film. The film is mainly about the confict between two step-brothers and their race in life, how one is clever enough to beat the other and other is deadly enough to beat the other. Abbas-Mustan do handle the story well and the film is full of twists and turns right from the scene where the story actually begins. The best thing about Race is that it has style. its a story that can be made by any director in Bollywood but they way it is made and direction comes down to the director duo. Race does succeed is almost every department it has to offer, it may be suspence or comedy but Race doesnt fail to let you down there.



Downs
The biggest problem with Race lies in the screenplay itself. It wont be wrong to call the film over-twisted, the plot goes way too far with the twists and turns.In the last frame of the film, the viewer is still expecting a twists and the directors have already over done it. Race does begin to lack in its direction in the second half and some of the twists are already predicted from the viewer and are not even shocking at all. Also the stunts, OMG, please I wish someone can bring back the editors sissors! The re-entry of Saif looks life something cut out from Doordharshan and the climax tries to be slick. The 'Race' of life has no brakes LOL.

Performances
The only performances to be worth praising here is indeed Akshaye Khanna. Even though he has two senior actors in the film he still manages to beat them andthis is because he is so talented, his expressions, his dialouges and naturalistic drama is all ace. Akshaye's role is the only role Abbas-Mustan seem to put power into and this why is the owner of the film, well done Akshaye!!!!!!!

Anil Kapoor does put life into the film in the second half with his jokes but except for the jokes he has no role, Anil is only here for the presence and the role could of been done by any one else.

Saif Ali Khan is another intressting part in the film but the 'chote nawab' becomes 'bade bhaiya' it doesnt seem right. Saif doesnt suit the role and he does try but he dont like a business man. Saif tries way to hard and it shows it as well, the filmy dialouges, the silent hero is not his thing. The villain sort of role suit his much more.

Bipasha Basu in previous films she looked amazing, but this film she had poor acting and she dont even look special like she normally did!!

Katrina Kaif, well, the less she speaks the better!!!!

Sameera Reddy has too many questions to be asked




Music
The music is one of the main things that brought me towards the film and it always will. 'Allah Duhaai Hai' has an amazing pictursation and the film just rocks while watching it, but I didnt understand the reason for it coming twice. 'Sexy Lady' has no reason for coming up but indeed the tune is wonderful and is stillmaking a mark everywhere. 'Zara Touch Me' shows how far Katrina Kair can go to show how sexy she actually is!! But most importantly the song is brillant!!

Overall, the best song is 'Pehli Nazar' The song is sang so beautifully and the song has such a brillant meaning to it as well.




Direction
Abbas-Mustan use bigger names this time around and rather using the same actors they have tested out something new all together. Race is not like their previous releases, Race is their more unique one. Race is 2.30 hrs of entertainment, its something that does test your intelligence but entertain you at the same time. Race has several twists and turns, some good and some bad but yes the screenplay may lack in a few things but looking Race as a product, surely it is not a badstory. The performances are nothing special (except for Akshaye's) which is normal for a Abbas-Mustan film.

Overall, Race is a something that can be enjoyed but the film does play around at times which you have to aviod getting at.

On 2nd viewing, tried to notice this "Sexy Lady" song. Still didn't catch the wording. But, the catchy lines are, "Khwaab Dekhe Jhootay Mootay" and you really have to work hard to catch "Sexy Lady" wording that I noticed for a split second only (this song is not in CD and I really liked this song more than other songs in Race).

Additional comment: In this viewing, they had changed the theatre. It's still DD theatre but something was not right. At times audio was perfect directional surround with plenty of bass but most of the film was flat mono (or may be front channels only) without any zing. I wonder why that in the first viewing, it was perfect sound throughout the film but not the 2nd time around ?? Must be that projector in 2nd theatre was not catching the DD track properly and hence it was backup audio whenever it couldn't get DD track ?? Could it be projector fault or wear and tear in film print ??

Did I like the film any more in 2nd viewing : Yes and No. Well, I went for the songs and booming sound as the songs had grown on me by now. But initially as it must have been backup sound, the first 2-3 songs were flat. My car audio has better sound. But later on, when theatre audio worked properly, the remainder of the songs were just great.

and now you knew the story line any ways!

It's the kind of juvenile juggernaut I would have loved in my late adolescence. I don't mind all the plot twists, but the flick takes itself too seriously. It's directed by middle-aged men pretending to be trendy, and it shows.

Khanna's performance is good, but it was overshadowed by his ridiculous wardrobe, which was designed for a 16 year-old. Too busy laughing out loud every time he was on screen.

Kaif is hot, but can't act for beans. Dude, if most PAs dressed like her, the boss would never get his job done. (The only film she suited was Namastey London.)

Khan was boring, and Basu is taking to long to hone her acting chops.

Truth be told, I liked Reddy's character the most. She was the only one who realized how dumb this movie was, and just went with the flow...

same as my kids! They liked Reddy to be the best thing!
