A big noooooooooooooooooooo!... apparently Manorama Six Feet Under was shown at the Bite The Mango (Bradford, UK) film festival yesterday 4pm (one screening only) - did anyone catch it? I would have skived work to go and watch this - music and movies have been really good.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0920464/

Anyone know when it gets a general release?

Ali

It released in Indian theatres last Friday, Sept 21.
It didn't make it to Toronto, Vancouver, and perhaps other 'overseas' theatres.

It's a remake of Chinatown, and has Abhay Deol, Gul Panag, Raima Sen and Sarika in it.

It's a remake of the Roman Polanski film Chinatown, with Jack Nicholson.

That's disappointing to know, I was hoping (and it looked like from the promos) an original price of work. Bhaskar have you seen it yet?

Nope, not seen it yet, but the 'pre-DVD' (which looks to be a rip from a Shemaroo DVD) has just been released on bwtorrents - may download it this weekend.

It's a pity it's only the big banner crap that comes out at the cinemas in the UK - I would have happily gone to watch this, and Johnny Gaddar if they had been released.

Watched the Shemaroo DVD last night (less said about the DVD the better) and it’s a very decent movie. It’s not lifted from Chinatown at all (I happened to watch Chinatown on DVD last week). They are some similarities, like when Sarika’s character is introduced is like the scene from Chinatown and there’s a desert backdrop setting with water being contested. The movie can also be described as a film noir like Chinatown, but Manorama Six Feet Under is a totally different story and it’s very well told with good characters. It is a bit slow paced, so you need a bit of patience to watch it though. Definitely worth a watch nevertheless. This together with Johnny Gaddaar and No Smoking , is to me the new generation of Indian independent cinema, which unfortunately only has a limited viewing audience (you can tell by the box office collections of all 3 of these movies).

Special mention for Vinay Pathak, this is the second movie I’ve seen him lately (other being Johnhy Gaddaar) where as an actor he totally captivates his audience with his character and screen presence. The best scenes in Manorama are when Vinay is on the screen.

Liked it! very well made! definitely recommended, if you are not after masala, cheese, floss, mush, glamor and sex appeal only! 8)

Well Ali-jee I usually agree with most of your prior reviews so I watched Maonorama with high expections, however..
dunno know what you saw in this Dry as a bone Too slow boring mystery plot. abhay acted better in HoneyMoon Travels , liked a few jokes and that funny scene when abhay gets chewed out by boss who had mistaken him for a lazy employee otherwise story was long tiresome detective investigation like soda without the fizz . Ali-jee wasn’t that 'mulpana' joke funny ?(lol ;o)
