My god (no pun intended  ) this movie looks a bore and I refuse to watch anything with Tom Hanks in it! Critically getting panned but still breaking records, the typical Bollywood crowd should love this then, go figure! :fight:

Nope, not read the book, actually come to think of it not read a book since schools days - ie a very long time

I don’t think Tom Hanks is bad actor either, it just that I can’t personally stand to watch his movies – just certain actors/actress get to you and he is one of them – Jodie Foster is another, Sunil Shietty, Jonny Lever.. my list goes on

Saw the movie, not as gripping as the book. Only Sir Ian McKellen, Alfred Molina and Paul Bettany really shone performance wise. Quality actors like Jürgen Prochnow and Jean Reno were wasted in typecasted roles. The less said about Hanks and Audrey Tautou the better. Ron Howard really dissapoints as a director, which is a shame. Maybe a director's cut could remedy this.

Also, the "important" line (when the code is revealed) was scuffed by audiences with laughs and jeers. Really intresting as Dogma (which has similar turning point about the bloodline) had audiences gripped, dispite being a comedy. Guess it sounds better coming from Chris Rock (Dogma), instead of Tom Hanks (Da Vinci Code).

Now we are talking 8)

I agree!! It is not as interesting gripping as BOOK( more details, more mystery, more thrill) but still imho, it was not boring to watch..I did enjoy indeed! but could have been better!

But no doubt to its blockbuster status, being second biggest opening after SW Ep 3(BTW I watched both on first day making that contribution   )

So said!! I think critics were expecting a pop corn thriller like Mission Impossible or Mummy, Matrix with SFX chases, weapons etc, at super sonic speed and no doubt the film is nothing close to it!!

Imho, film stayed pacewise pretty diligent to the book, but ofcourse for readers book being your first experience is more enlightening.

I agree Davinci is no way close to Ron's Gladiator Epic or Mind blowing/heart warming adaptation of Beautiful mind(different class of films ) but neverthless I found it enjoyable! I would have appreciated a bit lengtheir film, but it might slack the pace further

The book was exotic place, talking, chase in cycles, same in the film.

I do consider that good actors esp Jean Reno and his assistance has less than justified role to their calibre( like many roles of AB these days just for publicity) any one could have done those same or better!

Tom Hanks, Toutou( LOOKED BETTER WITH LONG HAIR IN THE FILM..THANK GOD SHE DID NOT CARRY HER SHORT HAIR VERSION OF cANNES IN THE FILM) were better than I expected. Ian Mckellen is always a pleasure to watch(I wish AB would only do strong characters like him)..what a superb actor! and Albino was impressive indeed!

But imho, Chauffer to Taebing  would have made an EXCELLENT , JB 007, that actor had a great presence and persona, as I saw Casino Royale preview and was pretty disappointed with this new version of JB   but his new Galores were HOTTs!!!!!! :P

While I thought the film was quite good (not as bad as critics made out) the book was far superior. The film will no doubt be a worldwide success and I've heard that Ron Howard will be making the next book - Angel and Demons into a film. I'm not against it being made, but why Ron Howard as director again? Someone else could have done a better job with this film.

I thought only Paul Bettany and Ian McKellen gave really good performances. The rest of the cast consisted of good actors but they just didn't perform on this occassion. Some people complained about the lack of chemistry between Hanks and Tautou, but they are just supposed to be working together, not a couple as we usually see in films.

Somehow I found this film to be appologetic about the whole Da Vinci controversy. It wasn't hard-hitting enough, it lacked impact.

***Spoiler below***

I quite liked when Sophie tried out the 'walking on water' bit. This was one of the only humorous moments in the film, along with McKellens slurs against the French.

Thanks Khiladi, I did earlier sincerely shared most of your sentiments!

and re Chemistry, it is very much consistent with the book!! I think people had prob Howard staying sincere to book and did not take liberty to ex-xegurate!

Recently I saw another film that I liked and and I did appreciate professional relationship mentained between the lead and still liked the film..it was THE INTERPRETOR! and it does reminds me of PEACE MAKERS, but that was different/terrorist based fast paced action/thriller, that Davinci is not UNFORTUNATELY!!

In these movies if I remember correctly lead pairs do not sleep together to validate their chemical relationship!

She had long hair but wore it tied up falling to the nape of her neck! So what's the difference? Yes Amelie is her more memorable film!
