This is a thread for CD soundtracks of Indian movies that are a must-have, in your opinion. My Indian grocer has so many old CDs from the 80s, and thats a period Im not very familiar with Bollywoodwise - I was too young to care!

My picks for best soundtracks of the last 20 years, in no particular order :

1. Ram Teri Ganga Maili
2. Hero (Jackie Shroff/Meenakshi)
3. Qayamat se Qayamat Tak
4. Maine Pyar Kiya
5. Lal Dupatta Malmal Ka (anyone remember this?)
6. Aashiqui (probably my favorite)
7. Lekin
8. Rudaali
9. Rangeela
10. Kandukondain Kandukondain
11. Devdas
12. Jism

Im sure there are more.

I suggest you go and look at the music nominations of film fare awards for each year since 1983.

Most of the time they get the nominations right which gives(shows) us good music of that year.

- Mohabbatein (Jatin-Lalit)
- Taal (AR Rahman)
- Dil Se (AR Rahman)

I would say these three are ageless soundtracks.

I mean no offence, so please don't take any. But are you making fun here? I mean it is difficult to tell, because I cannot for the life of me imagine anyone listing, 'Gunga Jamuna Saraswati, Nagina, Badle Ki Aag' in any kind of top ten list, unless ofcourse it is a list with negative connotations. But then on the other hand you have 'Dil Se' also listed which in my opinion could very well even belong in an all time Top Ten list. SO I hope you understand my confussion and therefore this post.

yes these are my favourites

why so???

you think they are not good enough??

Nagina has the best bean music in indian history. deny this?
even the romantic solo of mohd aziz is his best till date (aaj kal yaad kuch)

ganga jamuna saraswathi i love it alot i think beside Refugee its Anu Malik's best

not necessary i love the words but the music is superb

there are even samll budget movies got great music for example i like Bhairavi music alot

plus the thread was best soundtracks from 1983. if it was in the whole history i dont think even dil se could make it to my top ten list the only album from 90s and 80s i would choose would be Lekin and the rest all before the 80s

I'll do another list. One for the past 10 years, my memory doesn't seem to stretch as far back for the past 20 years in this catagory, though I firmly believe the sound & rhythm of music has exceeded as time went on and I believe it will continue to do so. One film per year:

Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (1995)
Maachis (1996)
Dil To Pagal Hai (1997)
Dil Se (1998)
Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam(1999)
Hey Ram(Tamil Version - 2000)
Lagaan (2001)
Sur (2002)
Kal Ho Na Ho (2003)
Swades (2004) *I haven't overlooked Meenaxi, I'm just idiotically obsessed with "Yeh Jo Desh Hai Tera"

2005 thus far...Subhash Chandra Bose.

Any idea where I can get the Zameen Aasmaan soundtrack from? I couldn't find it in India a couple of years back :(

I think most of the soundtracks I like have already been mentioned, but some of my favourites are Border, Sur, Zakhm, Yeh Vaada Raha, Alag Alag, Ghar (not sure when this was made), Eeshwar, Ram Lakhan, Chandni, Lamhe, Sindoor, Teri Kasam, Masoom, Barsaat Ki Ek Raat.......I could carry on all day!
