With the new Rambo film releasing today/ tomorrow, theatres seem to be starting with Rambo marathon, all in one package price ($ 20 perhaps ??), this evening ending with new Rambo film past midnight. I don't see Rambo 1, 2, 3 listed for screenings during the week. So perhaps, today is the only chance to see old Rambo films in theatre.

Rambo 1, 2, 3 were released between 1982 and 1988 when Dolby Digital wasn't available. It'll be interesting to see if the Rambo marathon incorporates better audio mix/ surround. Being action films, with lots of blasts, Dolby Digital type surround activity, if incorporated, sure will add to movie experience.

imdb listings show Rambo 1 (1982) with Dolby sound mix, Rambo 2 with Dolby SR for 35 mm and 6 ch for 70 mm and Rambo 3 with Dolby SR. Let's see if they, at least, show Rambo 2 with Dolby Digital surround from 70mm print or show 70mm print ??

------------------
Recall, Star Wars series, when re-released, had much better sound as new technology was available. But, that was a major re-release. Not sure in the case of Rambo films??

-------------------
BTW, this spelling has been bugging me for some time. I see "Theaters"/ "Theatres" spelled as "Theatres" everywhere (and not as Theaters anywhere) I look, but auto spell-check always complain with "Theatres" and not with "Theaters".
Is it English/ American spelling issue ?? Which one is which ??
Thanks.

Thanks Ali for the clarification.

Went for Rambo marathon. It was just one show for the older films and it's the new film (4th) that's playing now.
Obviously it was all hard core Rambo fans that filled the theatre (it was what they ca;ll hgouse full; no two seats together were left vacant except for the first two rows) and stayed for at least 3 films (as there were no more shows scheduled) and many, including myself, didn't stay on for the new film as it could be caught later on. If stayed on for the 4th film (first day first show), it'd be 1:30 AM when the film ended.

Audio:
First film (1982) was Dolby and had typical sound of that time or like 99.5% of modern day Hindi films. Nothing exciting about audio but of course this film is the best among Rambo series.

Second film (1985) was Dolby stereo, no surround. Obviously, they did not use audio from available 70mm print (6 ch) to make it 35 mm Dolby Digital. Still, sound was better than the first film.

Third film (1988) was Dolby Stereo Spectral Recording and was the loudest of the three with some surround, mainly ambience. It's appalling that even this day's Hindi Dolby Digital films (99.5%) don't have this much surround.

Fourth Film: Dolby Digital was introduced in 1992 and later on DD-EX. So, expect thunderous blasts from all around in this new super action film.

Audience reaction: I have rarely seen clapping during screening, but for these films, there were tons of patriotic clapping for the first two films. No clapping in the 3rd film for obvious reasons (Rambo fighting Russians in Afghanistan).
