how was Preity? out dated? or still in form?

Zeinta was wasted to a great extent...she is also beginnning to look a little overworked...the freshness from DCH is gone....i wish Kunder had cast someone else that takes care of herself and can actually move....more like waltz to the sweeping numbers....her movements and for that matter both Salman and Akki's movements were very Bollywoodesque.....nevertheless if Andrew Lloyd Webber were watching, here's some great material to actually convert to a Broadway/Westend musical.....the songs, the treatment etc. is much better than BOMBAY DREAMS....loved the picturisation of 'Kabool Kar Le', everyone and their neighbour pitches in to urge the lady having second thoughts to accept the proposal....there's so much joy and hope in that treatment....mark my words guys, Kunder if he does not chicken out and succumb to stupid formulaic things that people around him are bound to feed, will be a director to watch out for....he truly has a sense for the operatic....and for heaven's sake this is only his debut, but he makes a gigantic impact !!!!

And oh please do catch it on the big screen....whatever magic there is, will be lost when seen on a small screen.

maine KABOOL kiya your kind recommendation to watch on big screen man!

NP! My pleasure!!

BTW!! as you know there are hard core puss in the boots kinda fans for formula cheesy mush out there always! along with big wigs, happening names to keep registers moving schemes, deciding who should be in the film, that explains why puss in the boots like, sallu, sarook, akki , preity, rani etc to be in the film with a slash of BIG B for garnish.

On the other note, as I know you are a big time gulzar fan but man o man I was disappointed in genius name Gulzar I thought he was smokin or has lost faith in his gulzarish touch while writing song for this mush!

I thought the same as well....but i think you have to see the movie to realise why such ireverent lyrics had to be thrown in from a poet the calibre of Gulzar...the situations needed lyrics, not poetry..the characters could not have spouted it nor carried it off....heck they were not Maya from IJAAZAT to be able to carry off something of the gravitas of 'Mera Kuch Samaan'....i did however like the lyrics of 'Ajnabee Shehar Mein'.....

I agree!!I was listening to ajnabee shehar a while ago, and did realize it was saving grace any ways!!

It is unfortunate that filmmakers, by exclusion has stuck their noses into those old stinky A** as pussy with boots fans demand the same old, stiky repetative faces over fresh , new and competent actors!!

Recently whenever this stinky nose arse rule has been defied results were more than satisfactory, from Gracy Singh in Lagaan to Swdaes and Parineeta, muna one and two!! less familliar faces in good films are always appreciated!

Now you're talking my language! I've long since got tired of the same washed up re-hashed faces and started to look in other direction. You'd be amazed at the number of unknows out there that will give these same washed up re-hashed faces a run for their money!

Ok so maybe I am nuts, but i did not quite mind JAAN-E-MAN....i did think Gulzar had gone nuts when i heard the songs, but given the situations in the movie, I think I know where he was coming from.....JEM is very much a big screen movie, and if the sound is good then more the reason why you will enjoy it(maybe). One thing is for sure Shirish Kunder pulls off something a lot more experienced directors have not been able to do. This is a 'true' musical movie in that sense.....a bad cliched comparison but he does try to do a MOULIN ROUGE here.....and does manage to look credible.....in the end an analogy for the naysayers....suppose you were asked to tell the tale of the JACK 'N JILL rhyme(play along guys, just an example), there are many approaches you could take....short story, comic book, animation, song....whatever right? This is Kunder's way of telling a story that we all have heard before, but I do admire him for the way he has told it......absolutely there are scenes where the wire work can be seen(i am aghast, did no one tell him?), there are other problems too for example one could take offense at the dwarf jokes, but its still a tale told in the spirit of a musical....i would urge everyone here to read Baradwaj Rangan's review, nobody can say it better than him.........http://brangan.easyjournal.com/............alright, i am ready for the flame throwers now :-)

ok!! now I am in better position to comment your post.

Re Gulzar!! I can see, seems he saw the all filmed songs first along with plot and then wrote the lyrics lol. I agree with your point though!

Secondly, despite my due respect to your comments and a fresh musical kinda style and film trying to be a clean family comedy! I found it extremely uninspiring and was not impressed with either of the 3 main leads! Here I can relate to some of rana's comments!

No doubt some songs had nifty filming style though! In my case my word of mouth will be " do not bother about it" is safe bet! lol.

I did like Moulin Rouge a lot! and would love to watch it again any time, for visuals, colors, style, innovative style, mix of East with West, Good music and absolutely brilliant Kidman! 8)

I saw this movie yesterday and was pleasantly surprised! I loved it.
Niice :)

Can the author or the mods correct the spellings in the title of this topic -- I don't think it is "Janemaan" ;)

This is one of the finest movies this year... I've already watched it twice with different folks: the verdict - wonderfully made movie with its heart in the right place.

T-Series has re-released the dvd in a cardboard slim case at Rs.45 -- the same quality as in the more expensive edition.
