PAK HONORS DEEPTI NAVAL

click for larger view Gifted Bollywood actress of 80's and 90's Deepti Naval is honored with the Best Supporting Actress Award for her brilliant performance in 'Leela'. The Karachi Film Festival was the venue where she was conferred the award. In the growing love and respect for each other is considered as one of the promising acts in Indo-Pak relations. Deepti was delighted to get the award, as this is her prominent achievement as an actress. Indian stars have been visiting Pakistan to cement relations between two countries. Recently, Urmila Matondkar had been there for shooting a music video. Pooja Bhatt too went there to promote her film music album 'Paap'. Deepti had brilliant on screen chemistry with Faroukh Sheikh. Her major hits are 'Chashme Buddur' and 'Saath Saath' both opposite Faroukh Sheikh. She earned praise for her good work, but was never awarded. In 1982 Deepti Naval won the 'Best New comer' award though for 'Ek Baar Phir' where she played housewife to Suresh Oberoi.
'Leela' was a tremendous experience for Deepti as she played mother to a boy who is infatuated with Dimple Kapadia. After playing submissive characters, she played a strong role in 'Leela'. Deepti has always had special feelings for Pakistan, and visited the country thrice before. She becomes nostalgic as her parents studied in Lahore. The love of artistes for other on both countries will definitely help in improving Indo-Pak ties again.
