I dont WANT it:

Mani Ratnam´s New Movie To Be Songless ?
By: Abid
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Mani Ratnam , who has given us meaningful movies like Roja , Bombay and Dil Se , is currently directing his next Hindi venture.

If our sources are to be believed the untitled movie which stars Ajay Devgan , Abhishek Bachchan , Vivek Oberoi , Rani Mukerjee and Kareena Kapoor , will be a songless affair.

This coming from a maker who pays a lot of attention to the music of his films , is quite surprising.

Although I am all for making Hindi films without songs, Mani Ratnam is one director who I wish does nto go that way. SImply because the music of his films is really outstanding and infact some of the most memorable music of the last 10 years has been from Mani Ratnam films. He is one director who has never failed in having great music in his films, also his handling and picturisations of the songs is generally brilliant.
Here is looking forward to some more music such as that from Dil Se, Roja, Bombay etc.

Agree with you Sanjay but that doesn't mean he should have an obligation to make films with songs all the time. Room should be given to creativity. Anyway, same goes for Vidhu Vinod Chopra.

I think, and it is MHO..time has come, for MINDFUL directors, to CHOP LENGTH of films, to 2-2 1/2 hr only..and they should have a GOOD SOUND TRACK, with songs, BACK GROUND to SELL!! and Those SONGS should be USED SPARINGLY in the FILM, mostly in the BACK GROUND, Hollywood ishtyle...

Some could be used piece meal, as songs too, but not entire 5+ minute tracks, to hamper flow of story!!!Infrequently..not every 5 minutes!!e.g, in SAAYA, most songs were used, but quite judiciouly, and length of film was barely 2 1/2 hr!!

NOW MINDLESS HOUSE OF DIRECTORS..can GO MUSICALS way, THONSING all DANCE/SONG SEQUENCES, even HAVING people SING their DIOLOGUES, of 3 - 3 1/2 hr duration..

This will keep every one happy!!

BUT, not to GET GOOD MUSIC /GOOD PICTURIZATION from RATNAM will be SINFUL!

MR should have done away with most of the songs in Bombay. Maybe keep Kannalane/Kehna Hi Kya. Also I would have cut a few of the songs in Roja, but since it launched ARR, I don't mind so much.
