BPI investigators working together with officers from Harrow Trading Standards, Metropolitan Police and HM Customs & Excise last week smashed a West London counterfeit gang who were apprehended in Harrow following a sting operation.
During the operation, involving three separate raids on private addresses in Southall, over 20,000 fake Bollywood DVD films were seized together with approximately 30,000 cigarettes, large quantities of illegal drugs, false passports, over £2,000 in cash and a vehicle. A man and a woman were arrested and it is understood that the woman has since been deported to Pakistan.
The operation followed weeks of investigation by the BPI into the illegal importation, distribution and sale of counterfeit music and film product throughout the UK. The street value of the DVDs alone amounts to over £200,000.
