The problem with Prasad Labs is that their aspect ratio of widescreen films are currently messed up. Their in-house telecinist are transferring widescreen films at 2.20:1 anamorphic on the sprit datacine, instead of the original 2.35:1. I've spoken to Prasad (on behalf of Ayngaran) but the problem still exists.

DCH is not done at Prasad. It's done from the camera negative on a Spirit 4K onto Sony HDCAM SR 1080p24 10 bit 4:4:4. State of the art. Even almost all current Hollywood HD masters used for HD-DVD/BR are 'only' 10 bit D5 at 4:2:2.

There is no connection between studio HD tape and discs concerning compatibility. The discs are all MPEG2 or MPEG 4 or VC-1 4:2:0 at 8 bit. The HD master is better. The full quality can not be passed on to consumers with current HD-DVD and BR standards. The difference is not big, though. Compatibiity issues are among players and mastered discs and a separate issue. Requires player firmware changes to solve.

Who and where is the HD transfer and encoding being done? That makes all the difference in terms of quality.

I'm not at liberty to say but it is in good hands. More after I have seen the transfer. :D

Hey Zulmies,
I just bought this Sony Cineza Projector along with Sony upconversion dvd player and I must say they look really good even if projected on the wall especially for hollywood movies but cannot say same for bollywood except Black, Lakshya & Rang de Basanti.
As for me shelling out money for HD transfer is concerned it depends upon the movie. I am waiting for the day when movies like Sholay, Kaagaz ke phool, Pyaasa, Deewar, Agneepath, Trishul and hope all such good movies will be released in HD with a comparable hollywood transfer. I would then be ready to shell out anywhere between $15-20.00.
But if indian companies will go on providing VHS transfer in HD dvds with nice packaging :x as they did with most of my fav movies. I will never ever spend a single penny and will be happy with MIRC.
I Looooooove MIRC :D & Zulm.net for saving a lot of money.
