I came across a bluray BD50 uploaded on the torrent website, it really looks good for the age of the film. I will try watching it on my 4K tv and report back;)

If anyone is still here and is interested... :)

https://youtu.be/sapf-wPNx8w

Here is the 'Pyar Kiya To...' sequence, restored as best I could from the various HD sources available (Blu-ray, iTunes, YouTube) to create as full - and un-stretched - an aspect ratio as possible. Colour corrected shot by shot, and frame by frame in some cases, to fix the totally inconsistent grade from the Blu-ray and undo Shemaroo's ridiculous decision to change Pritviraj Kapoor's moustache from blonde to grey. Audio is the original mono, taken from the centre channel in the old DVD and EQ'd to restore some of the lost frequencies.

I wish someone would de-interlace the black and white DVD that Shemaroo first released. In retrospect, that DVD looks very good now that I've seen the "blu-ray' and the newly demastered version of the black and white print on DVD as well as Netflix India. Only thing that evils of DNR rear their ugly head in the pseudo-progressive version of Mughal-E-Azam. What are some ways to undo DNR filtering??

Until then, I will continue to devour Stephen's hard-work. :D

DNR can not be undone. It can be burried under regraining but that does not bring the missing detail back. Fake detail could probably be generated with a neural net trained to do that. But in general one should go back the the film element and rescan without DNR being used at any stage of the mastering.

In the original black&white(partly colour) release in theatres, was Akbar's (Prithviraj) moustache blonde, when this colour sequence came on screen?
