Is 'NTSC' still relevant with HD video?

After a bit of a long hiatus from Ayngaran with respect to Blu-ray releases, Paiyaa has been out for a while now. Rest assured ye faithfuls, Ayngaran is still sticking with its winning ways. The image is of high detail and spectacular clarity. Though the film has a certain washed out quality about it, color reproduction remains steadfast and the result is a lifelike image throughout. It is almost like watching the picture through a fine layer of desert sand, with a gritty feel about it. But, having watched this movie in the theatres, I can say for sure that this is exactly how the director intended for the movie to be viewed. Black levels are spot-on with no wavering at all. Skin tones are amazing, with the right amount of grain being present. The only discernible flaws of any kind that I noticed were limited to some 'slow motion' scenes where CGI must've been used, and the image is soft and blurred as a result, in those few scenes. But, I am pretty sure that it is a faithful reproduction of the source, and not a reflection on the transfer itself.

Paiyaa is presented with a DTS-HD Master Audio soundtrack that will knock your socks off. It is is an engaging and intense track that delivers quite a punch. Right from the opening title sequence, we know we are in for a sonic treat. Tight, clean bass rumbles the house and the room is filled with the clean and precise beats of the music. Surrounds never let up. All in all, Paiyaa comes very recommended and I only wish that we had this kind of certainty with the quality of every Bollywood BD release. Imitation is the best form of flattery - I wish more companies would take a cue from Ayngaran. Hats off to Sunny as always, for being a rock!

Paiyaa "Slow Motion" shots were really bad on the original DPX files. We could have fixed this digitally, but this is not how the film was shown on the big screen. When it comes to films I am a purest :)

Singam DPX is the worse we've ever processed. Shots were out of focus, had various aspect raitios, inconsistant colour correction on some shots, and really bad CGI work.

I dont know if the source had issues but in Singam DVD many motions scenes had issues in the sense that there were noticeable ghosting. These issues I dont believe are due to CGI as I dont believe any CGI is applied to scenes where you have a vehicle driving past. Are these issues present on the DPX source?

Ghosting is a problem on some motion shots. These are present on the DPX file of Singam. Especially during the car chases or fight scenes. Like I said...it is the weakest DPX source I've worked with. The production banner is aware of my complaint.
