I am quite certain the Netflix streaming was in Stereo mode when I watched Raajneeti last week. It switched to Dolby PL-II Movie mode by default since it was a 2 channel input from source.. I have HDMI connected from my PS3 to Denon receiver.

The picture quality (HD) was truly amazing though :)

I know that netflix has been experimenting with 5.1 audio but Rajneeti with 7.1 audio implies something is broken. Could you try to see if there is a firmware update for your player and see if that fixes the issue.

Your Denon receiver might be upconverting the 2.1 sound to 7.1!!

That is the most likely answer. It is also upconverting the video as well.

I doubt it is upconverting the video as HDMI is a passthrough in Denon receivers

You're right, in the case of Raajneeti Netflix is offering a HD stream. I don't remember seeing another Hindi movie in HD, so that is nice. It is also maintaining the original aspect ratio.

I hate Luv Stories is also in HD via Netflix Streaming. I watched it over the weekend. Seems all of the new movies being released by UTV coming to Netflix are streaming in HD.

Yeah the 2 channel audio is the downfall of Netflix Streaming till the HD audio, and 5.1 audio start streaming.

Netflix's instant view application uses Microsoft's Silverlight technology for streaming. Microsoft teamed up with SRS to develop 5.1ch support for Silverlight. The issue with Apple TV is its A4 processor cannot handle anything over 720p. What is the point of Netflix's source is only 2.0 even if your application can do 5.1ch audio. Netflix has been experimenting with 5.1 audio for sometime but it hasnt spread to all of its content. I had talked to Netflix once when they said they had a deal with UTV to bring all of UTV's newer movie to instant streaming much earlier that the DVD release.

Blu-ray quality!!!! You're kidding me right!!!! Compressed 720p at it's best. I felt like throwing up watching the quality. "I hate luv stories" or whatever it is called was decent in terms of PQ, rest of the movies are abysmal. Can't wait for their 1080p upgrade. Guess I am spoiled by the 1080i Direct TV HD broadcast. The PQ is just outstanding. Kudos to Direct TV for boradcasting over 60 channels in HD. Verizon FIOS HD is also spectacular.

720p is the best Netflix offers with 2ch audio.
