I am right here, but have had lot's going on. So not much time for movies for a while. Also, to make matters worse, my projector lamp died. So am waiting to replace that. In any case De Dana Dan is a Eros release only for overseas. So i won't have access to it, atleast not for a while. Although, I believe there is a T-Series Blu-ray of 'De Dana Dan' ready for release soon.

De Dana Dan BD Review
Ok, saw this BD for 20 mins and then handed it back to my friend. The movie is awful so I never intended to see it anyway.

My Review/Preview
Here is the preview/review from 20 mins of watching through chapters.

Picture Quality
The moment the BD starts with the film, the first thing you notice is how washed out the image is. It is like someone is holding a white semitransparent fabric between you and the film. This washed out effect successfully manages to kill the contrast and dynamic range of the image and eventually your viewing pleasure.

The second thing I noticed was color issue. The color temp and primaries are way off the mark and everyone looks like either they have extreme jauncide or they have applied orangish yellow face mask (most affected in indoor shots).

I used my RGB Video preset conversion to get rid of the washed out raised black level. Althought it managed to get rid to some extent but it was still there making this BD the worst ever for raised black level issue. Some scenes looked alright but most still showed raised black level. Outdoor scenes suffers the most and look really anaemic. I had to change the gamma and adjust white/black level to make it look better (Thanksfully changes are done on my free preset loss and I didn't loose any of my stored calibrated presets).

I took some screen shots showing the standard and RGB conversion of the projected image using my camera but they are in my laptop at home.

The detail on costumes, objects and peoples faces after RGB conversion came out really nice as I guessed. The two songs looked really colorful and punchy and if the colors and black levels were right, this could have been a demo BD for people who likes this movie. Not for me though.:)

Audio Quality
The audio quality is just opposite of the PQ. This BD means business and is full bodied and quite loud. I had to turn down my AVR volume down to -35 to -40 range. I watch hollywood BDs at -15 to -25 range and bollywood BDs at -20 to -35 range. Bollywood BDs normally have a louder presentation (dont know why???) but this one sounded slightly louder.

The soundstage is detailed and the rear channels get a good work with certain scenes and during the songs. My friend asked me to play the Songs 'Ba mulaiza' and 'paisa paisa'. The first one sounded really nice and the room came alive and the 2nd one can really knock off your socks so turn down the volume a bit. :D

Overall very good AQ. If the PQ was good I would have seen and listened more as the audio is quite engaging.

Conclusion:
It just beats me why Eros is delivering the same mistake again and again on the black level and colors . This is the worst BD in terms of those two issues. Thankfully, I don't care about this BD but people who care will be dissapointed. I am more concerned with the fate of other good movie BDs with Eros.

if anyone from Eros is reading the Eros BD threads here, please listen to the feedback and make sure the mistakes are not repeated again and again. I am probably talking to walls  but worth a try keeping in mind some good movies that are yet to be released by Eros.

I also watched Apaharan yesterday and will post the review now in that thread.

My Rating
Video: 2.25
Audio: 4.25
Overall Quality Score: 2.75 (to me PQ is more important)

Review done with
Display : Infocus IN82 Full HD DC3 DLP Projector
Screen: 90”
BD Player: Sony S350
Av Amp: Denon AVR 1910 7.1 AV Receiver
Speakers: Q Acoustics 1010i 5.1 Surround

Thanks for the review. The title is not available in India yet, Eros has this nasty habit of releasing titles in India months after the overseas release, thus getting a heads up in advance is nice.

Only they know how this makes a business sense. Unless they have rights issue, they should release all BDs at the same time in all countries.

The screenshots I took while watching the DDD BD. This shows the standard washed out image and the RGV video converted imaged. The washed out effect is more prominent in real.

Note: The images posted here are captured by my camera from a 90 inch projected image, so please do not get armed up with color accuracy and other properties of the screenshots. They are not computer captured screenshots and hence should not be used for any comparison.

I followed the reviews for a long time. I think most of the time you have a predetermined mindset to land the film in addition to their sarcastic and you actually watch the movie this way of thinking and instead enjoy the movie, you always think about how innovative to write a review of all exposing the flaws instead of trying to enjoy the film general public. Read the review, because before, kind of know what to expect from it.

What if the flaws are an impediment to enjoying the film? A reviewer's job is to criticize the flaws as much as to praise the good things. More importantly, if you don't like someone's style of reviews, don't read them. By the way, these are reviews of the Blu-ray and not the movie itself. Maybe you should understand the difference first. Blu-ray technology allows the film to be presented at it's best and there is absolutely no reason why we customers should expect any less in return for our hard earned money.

Seriously, get a life. IMHO, Sanjay's review has been right on. If you don't like his reviews, just go ahead and buy the disc instead of b*tching and moaning in this forum.
