Will the DCH DVD be released in HD-DVD or Blu-Ray format? Please let it be HD-DVD as i just got my Xbox360 HD-drive and i don't want to spend $800+ to get a Blu-Ray player!!

Sorry not to be rude but the title of the thread is:

DCH HD-DVD

.. so its not BlueRay ;)

.. and I want a XBox 360 with HD Drive for my birthday next year as well so this DCH HD-DVD will compliment it nicely if I am able to get it.

Not so Black & White.
Starting post by mhafner referred to HD-DVD, as well as, Blue Ray.

How much would you guys pay for a HD-DVD/BR of "Dil Chahta Hai" (or any other Bollywood film you love)? I'm talking about a high quality HD transfer, not upscaled usual Bollywood DVD quality.

mhafner said "it'll be 1080P24 transfer", implying master conversion. Will it be Blue Ray or HD-DVD, not clear. Blue Ray or HD-DVD, both, could be made using 1080P24 master.

Decision for HD-DVD or BR has not been made yet. If it needs > 30 GB for a no compromise picture and sound it will be BR. But likely 3 hours VC-1 plus lossless sound will fit on 30 GB. The film is mostly not grainy and not extremely sharp.

Withr regards to datacine, would a film look better on HD-DVD/Blue-ray if it was transfered on something better then a Sprit?

Also which tape source you think is better D5 or Sony HD-CAM to use onto HD-DVD/Blueray?

The difference between Spirit and a film scanner on HD disc should be minimal to invisible. Scanner could be more stable since pin registered. Colors could be wider gamut, more spatial detail. But all that is pretty irrelevant with color subsampled 8 bit consumer HD. HDCAM SR is better than D5 since 2 to 4 times less compression. It's visually lossless compared to uncompressed.

Mhafner, will the producers of this HD-DVD be releasing a regular DVD downconverted from this HD transfer?
