anyone know the status of PS2 backward compatibility with PS3? I searched online and seems to get conflicting results.

reason I'm asking is, I'm interested in the compilation discs available of "classic" (aka, old early 90's) sega games

60GB(discontinued) and ? 80GB? had hardware support for backward compatibility. The rest 40GB etc has software compatibility for ps2 games.

thanks for the info. too bad the drives are notebook size. i was hoping to pop in a 1tb for media files. I'll try to find a 60gb one, but I'm assuming you can connect external drives using the usb2.0 ports.

anyway, dedicated server seems to be the best way to go

found a useful thread for anyone thinking about the same:

Dear Criterion Collection Newsletter subscriber,

We’ve got some exciting news for this fall, and we wanted you to hear it first.

Our first Blu-ray discs are coming! We’ve picked a little over a dozen titles from the collection for Blu-ray treatment, and we’ll begin rolling them out in October. These new editions will feature glorious high-definition picture and sound, all the supplemental content of the DVD releases, and they will be priced to match our standard-def editions.

Here’s what’s in the pipeline:

The Third Man
Bottle Rocket
Chungking Express
The Man Who Fell to Earth
The Last Emperor
El Norte
The 400 Blows
Gimme Shelter
The Complete Monterey Pop
Contempt
Walkabout
For All Mankind
The Wages of Fear

Alongside our DVD and Blu-ray box sets of The Last Emperor, we’ll also be putting out the theatrical version as a stand-alone release in both formats, priced at $39.95. Our Blu-ray release of Walkabout will be an all-new edition, featuring new supplements as well as a new transfer; we will also release an updated anamorphic DVD of Nicolas Roeg’s outback masterpiece at the same time.

As a special thank you to our newsletter subscribers, we’d like to offer you all $10 off any order of $60 or more placed on on criterion.com through Monday, May 26. Just use the code OFBT and you’ll also qualify for free shipping.

Enjoy spring!

I don't know if Spielberg/Lucas will employ the same strategy for Blu-Ray, but they waited for DVD penetration to be high until releasing their big films on DVD. Close Encounters is available on Blu-Ray, though.

Forget every thing look here:

BR owners! u need to see what a HD GOOD SHIT can be  go buy BR of CURSE OF GOLDEN FLOWER by CT, it beats all CRAPWARIYA, and YODHA KA AKBAR hands down! I was blinded by detail, sheer beauty, never saw such a beautifully shot film, plethora of colors never seen before.

If CRAPWARIYA is rated 95/100, this deserves 150/100 :D

I caught it on starz hd man I am in  that how good it can get!!! 8) I have already ordered my copy.My impression of Hong Kong films is that they are shot beautifully but story is dumb! The filming I loved before was THE HERO, and I do not think it is on BR yet?

Sanjay, munda, UL, Muz,Stephen go get ur self a copy of COGF!

Quote:
WRAP-UP:

It’s nowhere near Crouching Tiger… in story, but fans of Chinese cinema should find entertainment in the magnitude of the production at least, which this BD appears to preserve near flawlessly.

I cant wait for CTHD if it looks as good as this. Go CT!!!!

Few Spanish sites announced Indy on Blu-ray for Oct/Sept release, although they've taken his news down as Paramount haven't officially announced anything yet;
