I selected Kuruvi as it has done very well at the oversees box office (UK, Canada and Far East). The film also has good production values, which should look good on blu-ray.

I've seen the interpositive of KK. It is in very poor condition. Our budget is very limited, and we cannot afford to pay for the restoration.
I am speaking to the producer, hoping he could help us for the blu-ray.

Indian (Hindustani) negative is damaged. The only decent version in existence is in Ayngaran's library - but on a 16x9 digibeta PAL. We cannot use this version for blu-ray.

Sunny, you've said in the past that you don't work for Ayngaran, and were overseeing the production of the Sivaji Blu-ray disc for them - is this a long term association, seeing as you're choosing the films, and speaking to the KK producers? And are you working on all the Blu-ray discs they're producing?

Also, I don't know if you're accepting suggestions for future titles, but I would buy Chandramukhi and Anniyan on Blu-ray!

I do not work for Ayngaran. However, a lot of film producers are aware of my DVD work for a number of films, including Sivaji, Anniyan, Bheema (the director's cut), Billa.
Ayngaran have asked me to see what other films could be released on blu-ray. Hence, I've been speaking to producers and finding out the quality of thier negatives.

I will only oversee certain film titles. Kuruvi (the next blu-ray project) is one title which I won't supervise.

Anniyan blu-ray oversees (except India and Far East) is owned by Pyramid.

Chandramukhi will release on blu-ray in 2009. The interpostive has been kept in good condition. This one I might oversee.

I am also trying my best to see if Ayngaran can release a few Mani Ratnam films (Alay Pauthey, Kanathil Muttamittal, Bombay).

I guess if films like KK and Indian are not in such good shape there is no hope of seeing classic Tamil films on Blu-ray. I'll have to keep buying VCDs...

Cheers for the reply. I didn't actually realise that Blu-ray rights were separated from DVD rights - I assumed they all came under video rights for a film. Do you know if Pyramid have any plan on releasing Blu ray discs?

Also, going off on a tangent slightly, any chance you can get Ayngaran to subtitle their cinema prints? I went to watch Sivaji at the cinema last year, but didn't bother as there were no subtitles. I'm guessing it's going to be the same with Dasavatharam?

I saw a poster at an Indian store for Dasavatharam that said it will be released in Tamil and Telugu with English subtitles.

This is just awesome work... It would be nice to see Sivaji vs Saawariya bluray comparison in terms of upscaled DVD9 vs bluray screen like whats been posted for Sivaji. I should say Ayn has given the right ppl to work on this and got it done really well.
