Does anyone have information about the quality of these two volumes of the Bimal Roy Collection?

Hi-

I don't have the boxed sets, but own 5 or 6 of the DVDs. What can you say about Baba Traders stuff? They're below average - an average for Indian classic films which is pretty low to begin with. All sourced from PAL VHS tapes, so no detail or sharpness. The subs are usually fairly funky, but are included for the songs (if I remember correctly). Lots of other things wrong with them, But since several are among the greatest of all Indian films, and most most aren't available elsewhere (as far as I know), you don't have much choice if you want to see them. I don't much like the Baba Traders stuff, but bit the bullet and went ahead and got the ones I wanted. Yash Raj and Shemaroo have released some of them, but they aren't any better.

Funny you should mention Do Bigha Zameen. That was the very first Bimal Roy film I saw, and I was so impressed by it that I went looking for more. And several were even better, I thought. I dug out my version, and it turns out to be from Yash Raj. The picture does seem to be clearer then the Shemaroo one to which you linked. It has 2 good extras, a short film by Bimal Roy, and an interview with Dilip Kumar about Bimal Roy. And the songs are subbed, something not important to Hindi speakers, but important to the likes of me. But I can't comment on the quality of the Baba Digital version of that film. Sorry.
