None of my DVDs by SKY or Videosound freezes.
But my Bees Saal Baad by BEI does, and Mahal by SAMRAT, and Bhaggmati by KMI, and Khoon Bhari Maang by GOLD.

It can happen with every label I think. They all use cheapest media. :x

Yeh this is more dependent on the type of media that is used. The cheaper silver looking discs (which the majority of Indian DVD labels used to use a while back) were all poor and didn't last long at all. Not sure what kind of media is used these days. I remember Video Sound DVDs were notoriously bad.

Retailers will give you your money back or exchange the DVD if you show them the proof of purchase. Firstly, you never get a receipt and even if you got a receipt, bravo if you saved the $ 10 receipt. Are we supposed to store these $ 10 receipts in a safety deposit box, foreseeing that the disc will rot and you will need to exchange the disc ?? You also need to remember, which retailer you bought the disc from.
Assuming, you remember which retailer sold you the disc and he is willing to exchange it, sure race to the retailer, spending $ 10 or more in gas (petrol) and hope that the retailer will exchange the disc.
Reminds me of a $ 5 LCD watch that I bought some 10 yrs back and it came with a life time warranty. You just needed to send $ 15 for return postage and handling; plus you spend another $ 5 - 10 sending the parcel.

One retailer told me that they don't get any credit back from the manufacturer. If they replace a disc for another one, it's at their own expense. Good retailers threw the whole batches away when they found out of problem while many, clinged on and kept selling them knowing that once sold only a 10-20 % chance that the buyer will come back asking for a refund, that they never give, or for an exchange.

--------------------
BTW, many DVDs (WEG, Video Sound, Sky, DEI etc) (from that problematic time period) that you couldn't find a working copy of, newer batches have been coming in that presently work. Most likely, the newer media is OK.
Perhaps it's because of the disc rot effect that Video Sound has almost disappeared from the market. Only a handful of VS discs are avail now.

----------------------

As mentioned in other threads:
Single Layer Discs rarely have the disc rot problem.
Early Double Layer discs that were on Goldish layer are OK as well.
Double Layer discs that are silverish are more prone to disc rot. Almost all of the double layer discs made by Media Dimension (many batches of VS, DEI, Sky, etc were made by Media Dimension) have rotten. Don't think media dimension is in business anymore.

Did not know that Media Dimension was a PIRATE company.
Just read Guuju Bhai's post from a few days ago about Piracy:

"We have been going after these people for over seven years and yet nobody has gone to prison for violating copyright," he continues. "We have won numerous judgments, the most notable being the one against Media Dimension and Bharat Mehta in Austin. Mehta was fined $2.3 million but his company soon declared bankruptcy."
