Any info on 1937 film Duniya Na Mane starring Shanta Apte, Keshavrao Date, Raja Nene ??

Plot Summary
Neera [Marathi]/Nirmala [Hindi](Apte) is trapped into marrying the old widower Kakasaheb (Date). He is a progressive lawyer with a son and a daughter of Neera's age. She refuses to consummate the union, claiming repeatedly that while suffering can be borne, injustice cannot. After facing many hurdles including an aunt (Vasishta), her mother-in-law, and a lascivious stepson Pandit[M]/Jugal[H] (Nene), her husband has a change of heart and magnanimously commits suicide, enjoining Neera to marry someone more suitable. The change occurs mainly through his widowed daughter Chitra[M]/Sushila[H] (Paranjpye, a noted social worker off screen) who provides a forcefully feminist movement in a speech to the young bride.

Any DVD or VHS ??

Hi Rana

I have a VCD of this movie ... I managed to get it (with a lot of others) from:

http://www.prabhatfilm.com/

They do not ship internationally. I managed to get it via a friend from Pune - so if you know anyone from that area then you are sorted!

It's a fantastic movie and the quality of the VCD is good ... I really wanted to get AmritManthan from Prabhat as well - but unfortunatly this was not available when I ordered the VCDs. I saw both films a few years ago at the National Film Theatre in London ... both had pristine prints that were sourced from the National Film Archives in India.

Wow! You made my day Muz. Thanks.

Although, I did put this enquiry, I never expected it to bring any results. But, wow, you not only posted a source for this film but even older films. Plus, your mention that pristine prints sourced from the National Film Archives in India are in circulation, is a bonus.

BTW, when did the Silent Film era end and talkie era start in India ??

---------------------------
BTW, recall "Teen Devian DVD" that DVDs are missing the climax. My friend is trying to transfer the "missing portion" (about 13 min) into DVD.

No problems!

Listen - if you can't get hold of the VCDs from Pune then PM me.

----------

Alam Ara was the first Indian talkie - it was released in 1931 ... probably other silent films were released after this but that was the first that brought sound to Indian cinema. I heard that there was a VHS of this movie somewhere but I've never found it.

----------

I would love to see the missing portion of Teen Devian - I really liked that film and it was a real shame that there was a large chunk missing from the DVD.
