I recently got Charulata DVD by a company calling themselves "Bollywood Films".

I found it to be of very poor quality, more like a bad VHS copy and certainly not what one would expect of a DVD. I thought I was viewing a pirated copy and not an official release! I found that DVD suffers from very poor video; the images were often too dark and generally lacked any real clarity. The audio fared no better; I couldn’t help but notice an almost constant “hissing-type” noise which was most distracting.

Subtitles were also very bad. On many occasions, the subtitles appeared and disappeared very quickly without even allowing me sufficient time to read them. I am by no means a slow reader and don’t ever recall
having such a problem reading subtitles. There were also occasions where the subtitles did not appear at all even though there was dialogue occurring on screen. As a lesser point, there were few instances where subtitles were inappropriate within the film’s context e.g. the word brother was often displayed as “bro”!

Overall, the DVD is a major disappointment and the label appears to have made no real effort to enhance the presentation. This film is one of Indian cinema’s greatest films. I can imagine if Warner Brothers released Gone With The Wind or Universal released Citizen Kane in such a sub-standard product there would have been huge outcry.
