Hi People.

Just read the AANKHEN review on India FM and thinking of Taran's reputation to kill good movies (remember Dil Chahta Hai?)... lets get first hand reviews from fellow members.

I haven't watched it in Toronto, waiting for the official DVD (not gonna watch it at Albian, which is as much of a sin for me as watching it on Pirate DVD)

Lets go...

Just watched the film at a theatre. Nothing ground breaking here. The filmmaker has several good intentions, it seems, such as a somewhat different storyline (for a Hindi film). But unfortunately, the script leaves a lot of logic to be desired. There are obvious and very silly discrepancies in the screenplay(I won't state them so as not to provide any spoilers). I had also expected a lot more from Ashok Mehta. The cinematography, though good in parts, doesn't live up to his name, Moksha etc. The dubbed sound will never be as realistic, classy or sophisticated sounding as Lagaan and Dil Chahta Hai's location sound. Its time Indian filmmakers seriously started doing that. Bachchan had some cool, if not a little contrived, lines in the film. Sushmita did what she could -for a rather fuzzily written role. Akshay looks psychotic in the film. Arjun Rampal seems to have gotten his role somewhat mixed up. He seems to think that blind people have difficulty controlling spasms in their neck muscles. Paresh Rawal carried his role with ease - as its the kind of role he always plays. The film is better than the average Bollywood film - but is way below films like Lagaan, Dil Chahta Hai or even Asoka. There is no particular compelling reason as to why anyone should watch the film.

I wonder if Albion Cinemas in Toronto are equipped with either of Dolby Diital or DTS sound. They were renovated recently (about 1 year back), I wonder whether it was cosmetic, bigger screen only or big screen and Digital sound upgrade?? Their web site doesn't mention any of this. BTW, Albion Cinema screens are bigger than their Woodside Cinemas.

I highly doubt it. No way. My last 2 films seen there were LAGAAN and DCH. No thump in sound, No sharpness in screen.

Waste of money.

SKNATH: I posted it earlier... in other thread.. due to ongoing strike by OPSEU, CineSphere (ontario place, downtown Toronto) is closed. So there goes your chance of a better theatre.

However if there is any other alternative it will be advertised on the pathetic DARSHAN SAHOTA show on Saturday 10 am, City TV, channel 7.

Sunihs thanks for the info... Now for an interesting side note. You said that DARSHAN SAHOTA was a pathetic show, but did you know that his PLUMP Daughter, is still single and yet to be taken. So why dont you take her out on a date :D

Just been to watch Aankhen and I loved it. Very stylish and well made movie. Being a big Bachchan fan, it was simply a must see for me. It's not the best film made but it’s by no means bad either. God, just hope the DVD is good :bored:

Boya can't wait for Kaante after seeing that promo!

Just saw it, top film!
A couple of good twists in it. I thought it was well made with top notch acting, especially a power house performance from The Legend, Akshay was impressive too.

Weird ending though! I didn't get it, was it something i missed or r they gonna make a sequel?
