Here is ali's review of Soven:

Staring: Shahrukh Khan, Juhi Chawla, Jackie Shroff and Nirmal Pandey
Director: K. Shashilal Nair
Producer: Nazir Ahmed
Music: A. R. Rehman
Running time: 175 minutes
Format: NTSC
Video: 2.40:1 anamorphic widescreen
Sound: Hindi Dolby Digital 5.1
Subtitles: English (excluding songs)
Year: 2001 (cinema), 2001 (DVD)
DVD: Single sided dual layered
DVD Author: Super Digital
DVD Release by: Soven Entertainment/Bombay Music House

Preliminary impression
Good
- reasonably clean (bar few glitches) anamorphic video
Bad
- video lacks colour depth and vibrancy
- sharpness is not what is should be - video is somewhat soft and lacks fine detail - poor source
- poor Dolby Digital 5.1 audio - no channel separation and lacks any dynamic range - disappointing to say the least as One 2 Ka 4 has a great soundtrack
- background noise/hissing is evident
- no chapter selection
- no subtitles on songs
- no extras

*** I know SD messed up this film big time with pseudo 5.1 and pseudo prog, miserably soft PQ!

If any one has seen Spark version? and if it is repacked Soven?

I hope Shemaroo does it for India with True 5.1?

I look forward to comments by Stephen etc?

Thnx

I rented this a while ago and yes, the Spark DVD is indeed the Soven release repackaged. I actually don't remember the PQ being that bad though - I just mainly remember the subtitles being totally out of sync at times. But it was definitely the Super Digital print.

Speaking of Soven, I noticed that Elite have re-released Dil Chahta Hai on DVD in the USA with the original Soven print from Spark's two-disc release. It's much better than the transfer on Spark's single disc edition that had really bad MPEG compression problems in some scenes. Pity Elite couldn't have included the bonus features disc as well.

Nope, it's still on one DVD. Elite have just repackaged the first disc from Spark's two-disc release that had the extras on disc two.

I'll sort out some screenshots soon. Ooh, and I already posted the Rangeela shots last Thursday, by the way.

No, I don't think so. Everything's still the same - same menus, same picture on the disc. It's just good that Elite re-issued this version instead of the inferior one Spark re-issued after all the freezing problems with their first release.

I got my copy from India Weekly. It's listed on their site as the Spark DVD, but it seems to just be the Elite version they're actually stocking.

Alright thanks. I have the re-released single disc version, which looks more like a vcd. Could you please post some screenshots whenever you get time.

Thanks
