Quality of these DVD's? Are they even decent? I haven't seen the movie yet and I want to buy it, but there are so many. :?

Hey there

The EROS version is a must avoid ... I have th apollo version - it's not great but at least it isn't cut to shreds like the EROS version.

Not sure about the 'Eternal Classics' one - haven't seen this.

Hope this helps.

Muz.

The Samrat version is much much better than the Eros version. I got the Samrat one for $5 a few months ago and I was pretty satisfied with the quality; there's even subtitles on all the songs.

If it helps - the apollo disc that I have is single sided single layered and does not have sub-titles. I personally might actually buy the Samrat version as well if the film is not cut at all.

Just checked bbfc.co.uk for the running time(s) (my copy of the DVD has been boxed up with a bunch of stuff and is currently in storage while I move house:

Category Type Date Company Run Time Cut
Video 09/03/1990 Apollo Video 142m 39s Yes
Video 29/09/2004 Bollywood Films Ltd 141m 37s No

I'm not sure who the Bollywood Films version is by - could be Samrat.

Incidently ... the BBFC have listed that the Apollo version is cut by 46 seconds to obtain a PG certificate :x Crazy stuff ...
