Mission Kashmir DVD; probably the most asked for and wanted DVD to date (DDLJ comes close but MK is still on top of most wanted!).
History of this is unbelievable.
Originally announced as rumour to appear on DVD by Colombia Tristar – but never happened. Then one of main ‘official’ announcements that DEI will do the DVD. Waahey, joy and jubilation from the zulmi crowd

It appeared on DEI website as a coming soon title, then info came that DEI will do it in DTS and transfer will be done from the original negative. The crowd go ecstatic - but alas it was all in vain as the actual truth was embroiled in deceit, lies and more dam lies :doze: - hmmmm is this beginning to sound like a Jane Austen novel! Anywayz DEI had never brought the rights to Mission Kashmir in the first place so whatever ‘deal’ that existed fell through :wot: Went quiet for a while.
Then out of nowhere DEI announce again that they will do the DVD but this time no DTS and probably not from original negative either. DTS audio was DVD storage issue in that video quality would be compromised if a DTS track was included. No big deal as many didn’t have DTS playback facilities anyway. Weeks pass, then months and rumoured release dates are whispered and time passes them by with no DVD appearing. Then DEI say they still haven’t brought the rights to MK DVD as the asking price is too high. Rumours spread that Eros/B4U will get the rights as their TV channel starts showing songs. Colombia Tristar come into the rumour mill again but no DVD still. At this time I get fed up and watch the film on a pirate DVD (where else you reckon I got the above screen shots from!

).
Time goes by, no DVD, no announcements.
Then, out of the blue DEI (yep you saw that coming) tell Sunny of IDN they’ve finally struck a deal with Sony (original rights holder to MK) to finally release MK DVD as dual disc special edition – specs and stuff are announced together with another new Sony distributed film, Govinda’s Kyo Kii...Main Jhuth Nahin Bolta. Everyone again goes wild and readies there pennies to go out and buy the MK DVD – finally its going to appear.
Few weeks later Kyo Kii...Main Jhuth Nahin Bolta appears on Video Sound DVD. Everyone slaps there forehead and pennies go back into the piggy bank - as apparently there’s been a ‘communication’ problem with Sony and DEI – after which of course DEI assumed they’ll do the DVD to MK when in fact there not. :sly:
So here we stand today, with no real info who’s doing the MK DVD. Of course Colombia Tristar have come back into the picture as Lagaan is all set to release on R1 DVD in Jan 2002 so they might still do MK on DVD. Then DEI aren’t still completely out either – by some miracle if they overcome there breed of misinformation and communication problems they might actually do the DVD – but don’t put too much weight into future announcements from them. Believe it when it actually appears on store shelves!
The most wanted film on DVD is still to make an appearance. Waiting...
