That's true. When you ask Law enforcement agencies to raid, you bear all the cost. And then you pay the lawyers. In the end, even if someone is found guilty, nothing happens. As one distributor said, "You close one operation, Ten new open up overnight under different names/ venues".
I'm sure the right holders themselves have given up to curb piracy and try to capture the market share by selling cheap by compromising quality. End Result: Crap DVD authoring and Time Bomb DVDs.
Ok I understand that it is difficult to curb piracy in Asia, because law enforcement is only up to a certain level and corruption is omnipresent.
But, when you are talking about the west (Europe, USA...), why is it mission impossible? There are not only laws meant to protect copyright and holders but also agencies and organisms to carry out the action.
There is such an agency (as for example in France) to raid shops carrying illegal or piracy products. The only issue is to identify piracy from genuine, the genuine has to be recognised a such by the law which means it has to be registered under the country's copyright law (certainly by paying a fee or commission..etc). If not, there is no genuine and by fact no piracy.
Please let me know where this seems like a utopia.
And to finish, this has to at least make us realize whatever 24FPS PQ or DTS 5.1 sound with Spec Features ++++ that the editor might put on his dvd, if he cannot at least reap the benefits of his investments, there is no point in him letting the dvd down such as EROS or other co. do.
