Good: Tamilini will make old Tamil movies in DVD.

Bad: Pyramid will no longer make Tamil DVDs.

Ugly: Tamilini's old movies quality will be closer to Shruthi brand

This is pathetic !!!! . When the rest of the world is looking forward to the new format ( http://www.hddvd.org/hddvd/) , we ( indians) are looking backward to see how bad we can make a DVD !. Can someone explain the logic to me please...., I thought there will be competition to make a product better not worse !

Enough of my rambling (somethings can never be changed), off i go to watch spiderman-2 ( Excellent DVD by the way , gives a good work out to your HT setup )

The question is what will Ayngaran do?
The only way to get control of the markets is through copyrighting in Europe/America, through European/American laws. Raiding the shops (e-shops) that sells counterfeit or piracy.
This needs investment from a bold company and should open a profitable new market. Especially, people will get the education through these initiatives. They won't have the choice to go towards piracy, at least not as it is done nowadays in such a massive way.

Just a thought...of a better world!

Ayngaran will not do anything. The best that could happen is if both retailers and etailers shun these products. I am 100% certain that people will not change by themselves. A classic example is a friend of mine who bought a $9000 plasma screen buying pirated DVDs!.

Other alternative is to make Jayalalitha as president of USA, so she can kill video piracy!

Did we not have someone on the board who represented Ayngaran in some form ?? ( i remeber seeing his post reqularly before shruthi turned up), would like to see what he has to say about all this .

Its a nice thought to make Jayalalitha president of USA, It will make history for more than one reason
- she will be first lady president ( beating hillary clinton )
- she will be first non citizen to be president (beating the governator) and
- she will def nab Osama bin Laden ( not my friend from lebanon who created a furor recently on the board !) just like she did veerapan and win the "war on terror" , who knows she might even nab the Pope of Vatican to religiously balance it out !!

That's true. When you ask Law enforcement agencies to raid, you bear all the cost. And then you pay the lawyers. In the end, even if someone is found guilty, nothing happens. As one distributor said, "You close one operation, Ten new open up overnight under different names/ venues".

I'm sure the right holders themselves have given up to curb piracy and try to capture the market share by selling cheap by compromising quality. End Result: Crap DVD authoring and Time Bomb DVDs.

Ok I understand that it is difficult to curb piracy in Asia, because law enforcement is only up to a certain level and corruption is omnipresent.
But, when you are talking about the west (Europe, USA...), why is it mission impossible? There are not only laws meant to protect copyright and holders but also agencies and organisms to carry out the action.
There is such an agency (as for example in France) to raid shops carrying illegal or piracy products. The only issue is to identify piracy from genuine, the genuine has to be recognised a such by the law which means it has to be registered under the country's copyright law (certainly by paying a fee or commission..etc). If not, there is no genuine and by fact no piracy.
Please let me know where this seems like a utopia.

And to finish, this has to at least make us realize whatever 24FPS PQ or DTS 5.1 sound with Spec Features ++++ that the editor might put on his dvd, if he cannot at least reap the benefits of his investments, there is no point in him letting the dvd down such as EROS or other co. do.

All your constructive comments are welcome...

Will Ayngaran pick up any more former Pyramid titles? I see they've just released Mahanadhi. Any news on the Mani Ratnam titles?

Dragun

PYRAMID does not have DVD copy right for 99% of their movies. They have copy right for VHS and they make use of that to make DVD.

Mahanadhi wasnt released by Pyramid also. It was released by some other company (believe Kavithat), but Ayngaran is the only DVD right holders.

Will Ayngaran release other movies... not sure, but they were talking with Kamal for all his home (i.e. Raaj Kamal production) movies, including Kadamai Kanniyam Kattupadu, Devar Magan.

Regarding old titles, you can expect some of them coming from Tamilini also.

Elite DVD (they released Karakattakaran, Meera, Kamaraj and Amaidhipadai) also stoped their DVD production.

Thanks

I figured since Kavitha Digital was based in Singapore/Malaysia that they were some offshoot of Pyramid.

That's great news on the Raajkamal films. I'd love to get good copies of Devar Magan and Aboorva Sagotharargal.

Too bad about Elite. I have their Kamaraj DVD, which is decent quality.

We do have pyramid version of Apoorva Sagothrargal. Its more like a ORIGINAL VHS quality (will post the screenshot later tonight)

About Devar Magan, I keep telling Ayngaran taht they should do this fast, but Kamal also seems to be too greedy. I agree that it is one of the best Tamil movies ever made, but should not ask too much. Lets see.

Meanwhile, Ayngaran released Kalyanaraman, 1979 superhit thriller/comedy movie, starring Kamal and Sridevi.. Ayngaran also released
Athey Kangal [1977]
M. Kumaran S/O Mahalakshmi [2004]
Giri [2004]

I posted them in a seperate Ayngaran New Releases topic as well. Will update with screenshot tonight.

I like Elite Vision DVD's. I have karakattakaran and the quality is very nice, got to get Kamaraj before it goes Out of Print ( or has it already !) .

Looking forward to Devar Magan ( great movie, Def among the TEN best Tamil movies that I have ever seen ). Along the same does any one know how the new ROJA DVD from Ayngaran is ? . Any screenshots of this film is appreciated.

Thanks
