Why do DVDs freeze within 6 months, while the media was boasted to be outlasting Film and Video Tapes??

If you think, Hollywood DVDs are immune to freezing problem, think again. They too freeze. I did hear on main stream Radio Talk show, someone comparing VHS vs DVD. He did mention, how frustrating it is to rent a DVD and it freezes midway.

I bought James Bond DVD sets last year. All but 4 DVDs were on Gold Media. I managed to find 2 of those discs on Gold media (older batch) and got them replaced. Now, after 1 Year, the remaining 2 Silver Media discs have started freezing. Why should I have to go through the hassle of asking for replacement, when the media was supposed to last 50 to 100 Yrs??

BTW, now most of Hollywood DVDs are on Silverish media and not on old time Gold media.

nope never thought that for example i have all of criterions kurasawa dvds (yeah im crazy about mifune) just found out about half them are suffering from some degree of freezing believe it or not i am now backing up my dvds on vhs and to tell you the truth there is not much difference in the quality to the untrained eye the crap looks the same my friend have some vhs movies way back from the 80's that still shows good as he explained he is very carefull about storage and every once in awhile he will wind and rewind the tapes to keep from sticking together he further explains if not you will lose video quality.
