I heard a bad news.. Tamilni is not going to make (quality) DVD's anymore. I also heard that they are going to enter into piracy market, because they lost SO much in piracy (Just like the way ayngaran did Sruthi).

Some of the best tamil DVD produced so far is from Tamilini (Ramana, Samy, Kadhal Kondain... to name a few) and it is sad to see them going this route.

On one hand "Amma" is working on killing piracy and on the other hand ppl are forced to go to piracy!

The indian store where I shop for dvds refuses to get the original dvds when released because he says almost all his customers have watched the pirated movies and he does not want to stock up the original one now. Result: I end up buying the original dvd if the movie is good. Renting from dvdhungama is also a good option.

I have not yet seen a few recent films I've wanted to like Perazhagan because I've only seen the Sruthi version available. I also want to see Azhagiya Theeye but I fear that the stores here will only have the Sruthi disc of that one too. I don't want to buy it if I haven't seen it, but OTOH I don't want to encourage the shops to stock pirated DVDs by renting them.

I do see lot of people supporting originals here, but the reality that video stores (including us) facing is that people want to see the movie AS fast AS they can.

Tamil pirated/camera print VHS comes to rental stores with in a week after the movie is released.

Original VCD comes almost after a month - same time Shruthi also come to the market. In my opinion, the quality of original tamil VCD is much better than Shruthi (and Tamilini VCD has DTS also!)

Then comes our original DVDs.... after 3 months.

All these people should realize that a cold food is not a good food. They need to serve when its hot. On the other hand producers in India are affraid that if they allow originals to be released immediately outside India, then it will come to Tamil Nadu (in many ways.... believe me, we ship DVDs to some of the movie stars in India... ofcourse they also bargain ...)

We have been telling Ayngaran to just raid few stores in NJ & Chicago... thats all they need to do. They do not want to spend money on attorney fees etc...

Anyways, all being said... "thirudanai parthu thirundhavittal thiruttai ozhikka mudiyathu"

BTW another bad (!!!) news is that Eros is now making DVDs in India..., which means the packaging quality is very bad... I hope atleast for good movies they make good dvds...

Ayngaran does not have time to even update their website leave alone go out and raid any store.

If you see a thief and turn away you can't eradicate thievery :?:

The situation for Telugu DVDs is also pretty bad. I've seen what I think are VCDs at one store, of recent films, that have paper labels obviously made from someone's home printer. The same store has few or no pirated Hindi DVDs.
