Just rented "Abhay" the other day. Man, what a funny film! Kamalahaasan is a great comedy writer!

In the opening scene with the terrorists, when they get shot, you can see the wires pulling them back! Isn't it funny?

But seriously, I did enjoy this film...let me clarify. I enjoyed LAUGHING at this film. I just couldn't take it seriously. Nothing anyone ever does seems to hurt Abhay. It was also pretty funny when he hits that chef with that big leg of meat. And at the end, when he jumped on the balloon (probably about the 100th product placement in the film), that was the last straw. Watching Kamal chew the scenery throughout the film was actually sort of entertaining.

Though I have to admit, I was convinced that Abhay and Vijay were two different people. But why he tries to kill Vijay towards the end, I have no idea. I really liked the ecstacy tripping scene, though.

The DVD was mediocre. Looks like DEI used a worn cinema print.

I thought the film was like taking a phat trip. I loved many of the scenes, and Kamal Hassan as Abhay was prehaps one of the best performances seen last year. Shame he wasn't nominated. But I do see this film becoming a big cult film in many years to come.

The Ayngaran DVD is actually better then the DEI one.

I wanted to rent the Ayngaran's "Aalavandhaan" but the person who rented it didn't return it on time.

I hope Ayngaran makes that special edition, though. I really want to see how some of those shots were done.
