--------------

The following evergreen classics have been released on DVD (with English subtitles).

................................................................
ARDH SATYA 1983
(no name-DVD Video release)
cast: Om Puri, Smita Patil, Amrish Puri, Sadashiv Amrapurkar
*opinion: Great film! This DVD (offered on Indian Blockbuster) is probably a pirate. Picture quality is variable, but beware -- the audio is gnarled/distorted.

................................................................
ARTH 1982
( Sky Entertainment; subtitles also on songs)
cast: Shabana Azmi, Smita Patil, Kulbhushan Kharbanda, Raj Kiran, Rohini Hattangadi
*opinion: Strong performances from Shabana, Smita & Rohini. Solid songs by Jagit Singh. Picture/sound second/third-rate..

................................................................
DOSTI 1964
(Apollo; subtitles also on songs)
cast: Sushil Kumar (Ramu, the lame boy), Sudhir Kumar (Mohan, the blind boy)
*opinion: Between the innocence & integrity of the storyline and Rafi's wonderful rendering of the L-P songs, I cannot be objective regarding DVD quality. Though I must say this old family favorite seems to have received a better DVD rendering than most of the Apollo titles I’ve seen. (There is another DVD version of DOSTI on the market w/english subs on dialogue only.)

................................................................
HEER RANJHA 1970
(WEG; re-released w/English subtitles on dialogue & songs)
cast: Raj Kumar, Priya Rajvansh, Pran
*opinion: Derived from a classic folktale/legend, this film boasts one
of my favorite L-P soundtracks. (Lataâ Do Dil Toote & aMilo Na Tum
Toâ, Rafiâ’s â’Yeh Duniya Yeh Mehfilâ). At times, the DVD’s grainy video quality is less than adequate; however, the film’s timeless sentiment shines through.

................................................................
AJANABEE 1974
(EVP; re-released w/English subtitles on dialogue & songs)
cast: Zeenat Aman, Rajesh Khanna
*opinion: Sound quality is fair. Picture quality is a bit creamy/blurry
at times, but EVP’s evergreens look better than most. (I bought this
title for the beautiful songs and the beauty of Zeenat Aman. I’m satisfied on both counts.)

................................................................
PHOOL AUR PATTHAR 1966
(SHEMAROO; no subs on songs)
cast: Meena Kumari, Dharmendra
*I was looking for DEI’s SAHIB BIBI AUR GHULAM or even Baba’s PARINEETA. I found this surprise Shemaroo DVD instead. Just bought it today; Haven’t had time to view it.

Such a great movie and the picture quality was sooooo bad! The colours looked really washed out and the dark scenes were HORRIBLE too! Sound was also bad! This movie was sooo good!
All the films I would like to have have a bad quality DVD! I hate Indian DVD companies!

Ali are you sure it's by shemaroo? couldn't find it listed on their site! If you still got that DVD, how about some screen caps?
