Was that a clear representation of South Asian society ?

I was watching parts of it on CBC, I kept flipping back and forth with the other television show MAD TV :D
Even though I don't think much of this film, but I did find Javed Jaffery funny in it. And bad luck was on my side at one time when I turned back to FIRE, I was cought inbetween one of the most distrubing film scenes ever, which is when the house noker and the grandmother are home alone, the noker pulls out his favorite play time video and pops it in the VCR and begins to play with himself. :bangbang: I hate that scene with a passion!

Maybe not, because if in reality, an Indian husband(A very religious individual like the one of the character in the film) was to catch his wife in bed with another women, he'd probably burn both women alive.
overall, I hate FIRE, atleast EARTH 1947 was atleast somewhat decent purly uplifted by AAMIR KHAN'S performance.

I find FIRE to be a really beautiful film, but I don't think it is about lesbians as such. Because these women would never have turned to each other if they had been able to find happiness in their marriages. So I wouldn't really call them lesbians (meaning women who are attracted only to other women). Unless you think Nandita Das's character wasn't interested in men at all, but I didn't get that impression.

I find this topic interesting as a Westerner, because many of my Indian friends seem to have been completely unaware that homosexuality even exists before coming to the States. When I was explaining to one friend of mine she said, "Oh, we don't have that in India."!

Aw, Only if i was born COURAGEOUS AND BRAVE HEARTS; i would have found interest in watching this film. But bomer, i fond it quite sickening of the whole concept of homesexuality.

PagalChand, you view does rationalize their act being a westener. As for east, one who can't find happiness in their marriage is because they themselves lack intimacy.

Homosexuallty is an intresting subject espcially when it comes to India. If you look at some of its past history, and even some points of the south Indian religion you can find some references to Homosexuallty.

Off the subject....

One of my childhood mate is a bisexual and she is half Indian but hasn't told anyone except her really close mates. She has told me stuff that have made me blush! And from the stories she tells she rekons that asian men are a bad lay (five min men as she puts it). She think asian men should see how two women make love only then can we fully enjoy the experince.

I kinda disagree with her but do understand where she is coming from ('scuse the pun)
