FOR UR EYES ONLY!!

When Amitabh Bachchan returned to films after a self-imposed exile of a few years he was termed as a "has been" owing to the dismal showing of 'Lal Baadshah', 'Mrityudaata', 'Hindustani Ki Kasam' and 'Major Saab'. Despite Bachchan giving it his best shot, these films were not quite up to his usual impeccable standards. As a result, his image as well as his standing took a beating.

But with 'Kaun Banega Crorepati' and the films that followed, Amitabh seems to have risen from the ashes like the proverbial phoenix. The list of impressive films from the immediate past include 'Mohabbatein', 'Ek Rishtaa--The Bond Of Love', 'Aks' and 'Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham'. And with the line-up that he has now, there is no doubt that Amitabh continues to be a major player who stands a couple of inches above people like Hrithik Roshan, Shahrukh Khan, Salman Khan and Sunny Deol.

Here is a sneak peek at what Bachchan has coming up during 2002.

His first release of the year will be Gaurang Doshi's 'Aankhen', which is slated for release on April 5. Directed by debutante Vipul Shah, this film is an 'action thriller' in which Amitabh plays a schizophrenic bank teller. This will be followed by Jhamu Sughand's 'Hum Kisise Kum Nahin', which has Amitabh essaying a genre in which he excels-comedy. The film is a remake of the Hollywood hit, 'Analyze this'. The director is David Dhawan, who struck gold earlier with Bachchan in 'Bade Miyan Chote Miyan'. This is slated for release on April 26.

Then there is the eagerly awaited 'Kaante' directed by Sanjay Gupta and co-produced by him along with Sanjay Dutt. This is a remake of 'Reservoir Dogs' with Amitabh playing an ailing godfather and is expected to release on June 7. There is also Channel 9's 'Agni Varsha' in which Amitabh plays Indra, the Lord of the Gods. Directed by his theatre days buddy, Arjun Sajnani, this film is almost complete and should be the fourth Amitabh release this year. His fifth will be S.Ramanathan's 'Zamanath', which has been in the making for more than five years.

In addition, he has signed up for Firoz Nadiadwala's 'Kutumbh--The Family' (a remake of sorts of 'The Godfather'), Vikram Bhatt's 'Aitbaar', Honey Irani's 'Nazookh', Tanveer Ahmed's 'Ada' (which pits him against his 'Shakti' co-star Dillip Kumar) and Khalid Mohamed's 'Mahzab'.

Also in the pipeline are the next productions of Anil Sharma, Yash Chopra, Vidhu Vinod Chopra's and B.R. Chopra.
